The Curiosity Shop — Local services in Jasper

The Curiosity Shop in Jasper, Alabama is the ONLY place I will use regarding wedding dresses, tuxedo rentals, alterations, bridesmaid dresses, etc. I ordered a wedding dress from Amazon and when I received it through the mail it was rolled up in a bag like it was something cheap. I was very disappointed with the dress for so many reasons, but mostly because it looked nothing like the picture online and it was too big. With only two weeks left before my big day I panicked when I seen my dress, then I brought the dress to the Curiosity shop and she turned my ugly dress into something so special and so beautiful that I cried on the spot when I seen myself in the dress. They made alterations and cut off the sleeves and turned this dress into my dream wedding dress. She was determined to make my day special by making the perfect dress. I also ordered the tuxedos, the bridesmaids dresses, and the mother of the bride dresses from this shop. The tuxedoes were rentals and everything else was purchased from this amazing shop. Called about getting alterations done. They said to bring the dress over so they could see what needed to be done. I just needed strap sleeves taken in an inch. I was there within 5 mins of them telling me to bring the dress over. I clearly spoke to someone other than the person that came out to the desk when I arrived, because she automatically told me no. They couldn’t do any alterations. It didn’t matter how little, and it didn’t matter that the person I just spoke to on the phone, said to bring the dress over to see if they could quickly and easily do it. It’s not like I was even asking for a quick turnaround. I didn’t need the dress for an entire week. I don’t care that they weren’t able to do it, it was just the fact that I called and asked if they could and the lady said well maybe we can just bring it over and let me see it And so I leave right away bring it over just to be greeted by a grumpy lady that just automatically says no. What a waste of time. Not a lot of time wasted, but just stupid. And why do you guys pay $500 plus for these...

Wonderful experience so far. I got engaged in summer 2013 with a ceremony date of June 2014 and promptly took the bridal party dress shopping. After stopping at Diane's Formal Affair (appointment required, rude, refused to allow photos of any kind so that we could compare dresses) we stopped here at the Curiosity Shop (apparently Wanda's Formal Affair in some listings). The staff didn't blink an eye at our lack of appointment, helped me try on as many dresses as I wanted, offered good advice, and when I found the dress of my dreams, they even matched the lower online price of it (Bonny Style 231; $778), threw in free shoes and a veil. I have gone back for several fittings; each time I have been met with courtesy, respect, and honest discussions about the need for alterations(free for bride), as I've dropped nearly four dress sizes since I bought it.
