Rock N Roll Sushi — Restaurant in Jasper

I wanted to like this place. I really did. I’ve been so excited to hear how downtown Jasper is trying to improve but I see some things never change. The first time I visited this location was shortly after it opened. The grill was not working, however they let us know that AFTER we ordered drinks. This normally wouldn’t be an issue but my mother, who was with me, doesn’t eat sushi. So a heads up would’ve been nice. My sushi came back out quickly and was good, but the appetizer which was ordered as my mother’s meal, came out after I was long finished with my meal. We paid and left, but shortly after leaving, I realized my 10 month old left a toy behind. Upon returning to find it, it was spotted on the floor where waitresses saw it and would purposely step over it, rather than move it out of the way. I realize that has nothing to do with the food, but to me it let me know the type of people they hire.

My second experience with this location was just this evening. We were not greeted upon arrival and we sat ourselves. The manager on duty was sitting in a bar stool in the corner, playing on facebook, and not so discreetly pouring herself some pretty strong drinks. We waited for over an hour for our sushi and watched the manager get sloppier and louder. By this point we were hangry and very annoyed at the way they conduct business, so we paid our tab and left. I tried to write off my first visit as issues of just opening a restaurant, but I now see that this is just how this business chooses to treat customers and represent the chain. You can bring all the nice and cool restaurants to Jasper, but you still have “Walker County people”...

This place is definitely Rock n Roll. If by rock you mean being vacant and arrogant and not really doing your job or anyone else’s. Took the staff maybe 15 minutes to realize we even came in. Salmon was ok but also pre sliced and clearly aging in the glass case. Said hi to the sushi “chef”, he looked up but didn’t acknowledge. They didn’t bus the tables or bar where we sat before, during, or after. They thought we had drinks already because they just left the previous tables drinks. Ramen was basically 50 cent ramen in a fancy bowl. Waitress was nice and doing her job but if the managers read this and consider talking to the staff, go for it but the vacuum is clearly in management, not training. Also they tried to add stuff to my ticket, said it was accidentally a different table, but I looked at the receipts and it was the same table. Mid would be a compliment, I’ll give them 3 stars because nobody reads 1-2 star reviews. Delicious. Excellent presentation. Perfect.

Cheesecake $7.95 (ORIGINAL OR FRIED) Creamy slice of traditional cheesecake drizzled with chocolate and caramel, topped with whipped cream and strawberries. Not-so-traditional? Get it fully fried.

This was decadent. A perfect end to a wonderful experience.
