Awesome experience, will go back again before end of season. I found Juicy Leaf's table, where the ladies were selling what they had left of the fresh made cold pressed juices. I purchased the pineapple, watermelon and lime juice combination titled YUM. That is is and was, each flavor was there and neither overpowered the other. There are vendors of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, artesian breads, jewelry and many handcrafted items. As well as vendors selling fresh foods ready to eat, there was a vendor selling Mexican Street Corn on the Cob and other food choices. A vendor making pizza's, another selling granola, popcorn varieties as well as homemade pasties and coffees. So much to go and see to simply mention in this post, the market offers a little something for everybody. I'm looking forward to attending the Farmer's Market in Kalamazoo again, to get there sooner to be able to enjoy more of the market. Also looking forward to the Plant Based event bein held in September, offering plant based product option's. With all the bickering over the plant based sausage offered by Cracker Barrel restaurant's added to the menu. This gives those who do not eat meat to have a protein with their breakfast. Cracker Barrel still offer's the pork sausage, bacon and ham etc etc. Yet giving option's to all their customer's. Sorry, had a need to put in my own to cents on plant based matter. So, go out and enjoy the Kalamazoo Farmer's Market on Saturday's 7am - 2pm and 3rd Thursday's at night. Help keep our local Farm's and Farmer's goin for many...
Read moreInitially I was excited about the renovations but it was a real let down. The new Farmer's Market is a chaotic parking lot with a hamster tunnel for vendors. There are really no places to sit or places and not many places to throw away trash. Once you find a spot you are rushed through the market. If it's busy, be prepared to slowly march through the tunnel to grab what you need. There's very little scenery (besides the Door Dash Ghost Kitchen) so it feels like I'm picking up produce in an unappealing lot.
I do miss the old location when it was at Homer Stryker Field. I had never been over to that side of Kalamazoo so it was really nice to see other scenery like the Growler's stadium or the soccer field. It felt like I was living in a town that took pride in its local sports. Similarly, the trees and grass felt much more appealing than the asphalt lot at the Bank Street location. I remember seeing kids running around in the grass, young couples sitting and having a bite but now the Farmer's Market experience is a tunnel with very little to opportunity to stop and enjoy a community gem.
The people at the Farmer's Market are kind and all around fantastic. Be sure to grab something from Young Earth Farm (I'm a huge fan of the Walleye!)
Location just sucks and it doesn't make the trips as memorable as...
Read moreLots of vendors! Most things were a little pricey, which we didn't mind that much, but we blew $90 very fast. We got 8 different kinds of drinks (kombucha, juice, cider) 4 tomato plants, a fresh radish bunch, a Kalamazoo t-shirt and we had to buy a reusable bag($5) because we forgot to bring our own. We got to meet some very nice people too.
If you look closely you can find vendors with more affordable prices. If you don't have cash you can easily buy "monopoly money" (not sure what the actual term/name is) dollar for dollar --no fee-- from the little office area in the center of all the vendors.
We probably won't be able to go too often, but we will definitely check it out again. I would highly suggest people take their time & really look around first; don't feel obligated to buy from everyone right off the bat or else you may spoil the fun & run out of money real quick like we did.
Really, the only drawback...
