Golfed here yesterday with my two buddies. We hadn't planned on golfing but decided to go since golf is the major attraction here.

I had to rent clubs since this was last minute. Club rental was great. Excellent condition titlest set with TS2 woods and a Scotty Cameron putter for $75 bucks was a good deal. Came with 2 sleeves of balls for the 18 hole round. Overall the course was in great shape. It is a good course that is not too hard but not easy either. Unfortunately this is about the end of the good part of the day.

For the cost ($345 after tax for 18 and rental) I was really expecting a 'next level' experience. This was far from that.

With the rental clubs I went to the range. None of the pins were marked for distance. My whole point was to figure out how I hit the rental clubs, and you couldn't. I asked the attndent and starter if they knew the yardages and they didn't. I was shooting blind. How hard is it to have a sign with the pin distances?

The carts have zero technology. There is no gps or digital map. My $40/round course by my house has full gps with an interactive map showing pin location, etc. This cart had nothing. By the 4th hole I had to go find some app to make it playable. With all the doglegs on the course you couldn't tell how far the layup was. In 2022 this feels like a basic thing to have at any course, forget about something this level.

When we started the round we were told the cart girl would be around with drinks and there was concessions at the 10th. We played 8 full holes on the sweltering hot day before we saw the cart girl. The carts have water bottles, but obviously we were looking for some beverages. This would have been really problematic if we were only playing 9.

When we did get to the 10th it was 5:35 and the concessions were closed. No food, no drink. The girl was still in there but didn't acknowledge us standing at the window. When we knocked she said they were closed (no other way to tell).

We did convince her to grab us some beers from the cart, but she was pretty rude and basically treated us like we were an inconvenience. Clearly she was trying to get out of there for the day and we were in the way of that.

Again dropping 350 for a round is not an easy commitment - we were all expecting more than we got. The course was in great shape and the rentals were a good deal, but the service here is lacking.

When we come back, it won't be to cougar point.

As far as the course goes— set up and playability are good. If you hit your 5 or 4 iron 200yds you really don’t need any club above that (from gold tees which play 6500yds). It’s basically a target course, hit the right targets and the approaches are easy enough to get a GIR.

Shipping company lost my clubs so was forced to rent clubs. The staff was nice and comp’d my rentals.

For a $300 round, you really would expect more from the course though. No tech in the carts, barely any sprinkler heads with yardage, and no chance to get a drink before hole 12 or 13 unless the cart person makes their way over to you— a long shot.

Every course I’ve been to, especially top rated ones, are always open at least 1 hour before the first tee time. We teed off at 730, and they didn’t even unlock the club house doors until 645am and couldn’t check in until 7am. Had to decide whether to eat or warm up… and kitchen wasn’t even going at that time anyways.

Really disappointing experience for that...

Least willing to help and un flexible staff I think I have ever come across in a pro shop. Everyone outside the pro shop was great. I played 9 holes before a rain storm and was told I could come back later and finish if the course opened.

I tried 3 separate times to go back and play and was given a new reason as to why I couldn't each time. " the back 9 is too wet" "we don't have any room" and last you won't finish in time.

Here's the thing I'm staying on the actual golf course. Went for 2 bike around the course and could numerous holes.

The course wasn't full, not even a little and when I checked back after around 545 I was told it will be dark at 7....

For such a nice resort in the village they have some pretty un accommodating people. Especially compared to all the other restaurants and course around the village. Really out of touch compared to all the other places we visited...

Renovations and new clubhouse are stunning! I played Cougar Point many years ago and enjoyed the routing and marsh views. On this trip to KI, I wanted to play the course after the renovation. The new clubhouse and practice area are first rate. The course conditions were outstanding since converting over to Paspalum grass (same as Ocean Course). The greens are large with severe contours, thankfully the green speed makes the slopes manageable. This course requires you to manage your game. Shot making is rewarded, not length. Multiple tee locations make it enjoyable for all levels. Our group played from the Black and Gold tees (6500-6800) based on handicap. It was a enjoyable and fair match. Risk and reward holes abound making it ideal for 2 man team matches. Highly recommend on your next trip to KI.
