UPDATE: Sept 5, 2020 Room 3T. As you can tell by my review, there is a lot to complain about this time. I hope this gets addressed.
I expected much more attention to cleanliness with the government regulations in place to combat Covid19. When we arrived we noticed the upstairs toilet was running and there was a horrible fish smell! I went into the bathroom and fixed the running toilet by shortening the flapper chain which made me wonder who is running the maintenance here. The cleaning crew definitely has ZERO communication with the maintenance staff but I think they just don't care as much.
As we unpacked I noticed the kitchen sink was moldy around the sunken sink and counters had a sticky film on some areas. The kitchen floor was super gritty and dusty which tells me it wasn't swept or vacuumed. The hardwood floors were dusty and there were clumps of disgusting dust and dog hair under the chairs and sofas, which are in plain view as you approach the living room from the kitchen area. I have extreme dog and cat allergies so I left it as is, so I don't come in contact with the dander. Cleaning crews were never present and the maintenance guys were to busy smoking in the garage so nothing was addressed.
As we open the patio door on the main floor we noticed the screen was off the tracks and was left there broken leaning on the patio window. I ended up fixing this also. It was a simple fix but maintenance and the cleaning crew didn't bother with it.
I opened the dishwasher and we almost gagged! The smell of rotting fish was disgusting. It hasn't been cleaned for a long time! I ended up taking the filter apart and noticed a disgusting slimy film covering the base, I cleaned it out then sanitized it with bleach and ran it to self clean it. I finally got the dishwasher cleaned and sanitized without the fish smell and slime. YUCK! After this I sanitized all our bathrooms and the kitchen because I lost trust in the cleaning crew.
The pool toilet in the children's area did not flush and I was made aware of this by my wife. I needed to use it so I ended up fixing the broken flapper chain which was temporary but it made the toilet usable again to the guests. I feel like I was fixing more things throughout my vacation than the maintenance staff did.
Finally, at parking spot 72 the ceiling has bad water damage which made a part of it crumble and fall. This water damage has caused severe visible black mold. I can't imagine staff walking and driving past this everyday without noticing it.
Also, the roach infestation at night in the walkways and stairways was disgusting but at least they were mostly outdoor although we did have one crawl out from underneath our stove.
The Good: The pool was great, the ocean views are great, it's in a central location to restaurants and we will probably give this place another chance but I really hope they fix this place up. It feels like it's getting run down and it can all be fixed just by paying attention to details. Everything I mentioned above should have never happened and I expect ownership to read customer complaints and reviews so that they can make future experiences pleasant. This place is not cheap so fix the problems!!
Original Review below:
Room # 3S. Luxurious Condo easy beach access. It is very easy living in the center of good restaurants. Very nice, and so cozy. I loved the tile in this place. The only down side was, the freezer leaked, the water faucets had mold growing from them and it was dusty. If they payed attention to the details, this place would be perfect. Oh, if it rains, use the elevators, there are waterfalls coming down the inner stairwells. Ridiculous. Good thing it was sunny 6 out of the 7 days here. Coming back, but asking them to part attention to the details. I think we deserve it,...
Read moreLast year, we stayed here and rented through a private owner. Our place was immaculate, and we had no complaints. We did not realize this was not the standard across the whole condo.
Unfortunately, our stay this year was far from enjoyable. We rented unit 3I through Village Reality. Communication was very poor. Before arrival, we struggled to verify our access code and were unable to reach anyone for assistance until just 20 minutes before check-in. Even after that point, we did not receive our code and had to call back yet again and wait for them to give us the correct door code.
Upon entering the condo, we were shocked by the lack of cleanliness—there were large black hairs in the sheets, bathtub, sink, and around the toilet. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes, and the floors and tables were sticky. The washing machine was covered with mildew and there was an overall “musty” smell in all the bedrooms downstairs. there was mildew in the showers and malfunctioning lights and electrical outlets throughout the unit. We came to find that the dishwasher and ice machine in the refrigerator were broken as well, adding even more inconvenience.
We called and left three voicemails to report the condition of the unit, but no one ever returned our calls or acknowledged our concerns.
I don’t typically leave negative reviews or reach out to complain, but this experience was poor enough that I feel it’s necessary. This unit was not well-maintained at all and it was very clear that nothing was professionally cleaned. Someone from housekeeping happened to be walking by and I expressed my concerns. She said, “We have a lot of young people working for the summer and they definitely rushed it.” She asked me to send photos and made it seem like she was passing my concerns on to management. This was clearly just lip service, as no one ever called.
I spent the first 3 1/2 hours of our stay, sanitizing toilets, sinks and tubs, washing someone else’s dirty dishes, and changing sheets and replacing with our own personal bedding. I vacuumed and mopped all the floors so I wasn’t completely disgusted to walk on them. Additionally, the pool and hot tub did not seem to be very well maintained, which was not our experience in the previous year. The only positive I found this year was the consistent beautiful view and proximity to the ocean. Customer service leaves much to be desired and we will not be booking with Village...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay at Croatan Surf Club (stayed May 20 to May 27). The unit (3J; dog friendly) was very nice, clean, and well appointed. The property has a nice zero entry kiddy pool with water features, a outdoor pool, outdoor hot tub, and a indoor pool/hot tub. The weather was uncooperative during our stay but the indoor pool was a perfect oasis for use with our toddler. Access to the beach is easy, with seating areas overlooking the beach. The public pool areas also have showers and restrooms, which is fantastic when traveling with young children. The property has nice grounds and landscaping, and is well maintained overall. There are some public areas that need attention and they were doing maintenance in the public areas during our stay but were very contentious of the guests, and were clean and tidy with their work. We are already looking about a stay for summer 2024 and recommend this property to families with small children for the amenities, location and access to the beach.
About the location (MP 7.5) - central to many OBX attractions, dining and shopping. From unit 3J you can also see the Wright Brothers Memorial, which is a...
