The last visit we had tk Carl's will probably be the last which is too bad because they have great food! We relocated here for the military and hyped Carl's up to our family that was visiting because we love their subs. When we went, we were charged almost $60 for a few subs and chicken strips and then were told to wait in our truck for our food. Over 20 minutes later we finally went back inside to check on the food's status after noticing people who came in after us leaving with food. They told us that they didn't have our order, then told us that we already received the food, and then went back and forth a few more times and finally said that we never paid for our order. This went on for about 5-10 more minutes while the one worker insisted to us that we didn't pay and neeeded to pay (again) for them, while his coworker repeatedly told him we did pay and didn't get our food. It turns out that they charged us for most of our food and 2 random people's food that were in when we ordered. The man who insisted we didn't pay then refunded the original charge but still charged us for all of our food. (I get you need to pay for your food, but after that nightmare of being accused of not paying and finding out you paid for some other guests' food + long wait, most businesses would at least comp one thing) My family was surprised we hyped them up so much and now I am too. The food is really good but the customer service is severely lacking and out of the 10+ times I've been to Carl's, at least 75% of the time the order isn't completely right. The one worker was extremely nice and patient and was the only reason we didn't really our patience, but the other worker needs to learn customer...
Read moreI live nearby and go here often. I don't order pick up food from here often because it is of the greasy variety. That isn't a slam on Carl's but more a comment on just the kind of hot sandwiches and burgers they have on the menu. I prefer lighter lunches. For what i go here for, meat and beer, they are five stars. Their meat selection both in the case and in the freezer is great. The beer selection is great; not huge, but with a nice variance. Definitely more beer going on than you'd expect from just a drive by the place. I've even come across a few very coveted beers in this place (Old Rasputin 15 year barrel aged). I think their customer service is their best quality and anyone saying otherwise are probably one of those annoying people that don't take a moment when walking into a place to observe the multiple signs telling you where to stand in line. They have a very large crew of people getting you through the line so even when the line is at its longest it goes quickly. I've been going here at least weekly for the past 5 years and have never had a bad run in with any of their current or past employees. At this point I've...
Read moreCarl's was my go to meat market in Kittery. They have a modest variety of meat cuts displayed, but they are all quality products. Want something you don't see? Just ask! They can get almost anything for you if they don't already have it in the back. There's only so much shelf space after all.
Additionally, they have a much wider variety of beers. A lot of them you can purchase by the bottle. A cooler has most of your popular six pack varieties as well for the less adventurous or thrifty beer drinker.
By far, my favorite aspect of Carl's is their restaurant. Food prices are not over inflated, and oh my is it all good. Try the sweet potato fries with your burger or sandwich. Light, crisp, and delicious every time. They usually have rotisserie chicken or warm chicken tenders ready to go if you want something faster to take home.
Need sides of a dessert? They partner with a local distributer to sell such things as Mac and cheese, potato salad, etc. Press, brownies, cookies, you name it. All delicious.
Check out their Facebook page for the daily specials. They update it...
