I rarely post reviews unless I’ve had a truly exceptional or truly terrible experience. In this case, I felt compelled to share our experience because it was that exceptional.
Last month, during the busy 4th of July sales, my husband and I were on a mission to help our daughter and son-in-law find a bargain on a sofa for their living room. After a long day visiting multiple stores in the Knoxville area, we ended up at Brown Squirrel. The selection there is impressive — almost overwhelming — and we were feeling decision fatigue as the day stretched into the dinner hour.
That’s when we met Darlene, an interior designer at Brown Squirrel. She greeted us with a smile and a genuinely positive attitude. Warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, she took the time to look at pictures of our space, take measurements, and understand our needs. Even while assisting other customers, she managed to give us her full attention when we needed it. There was absolutely no pressure — just a straightforward, helpful approach to guiding us toward the best choice for our space. We ended up re-furnishing their entire living room. We are actually here at her house now, and I am digesting my dinner in this very comfortable love seat while my grandson is sharing silly videos on his iPad. What a joy, and I must say that the entire living room looks absolutely AMAZING!
The furniture is great, and Darlene's service was truly world-class. We are designating her as our family’s go-to for all things interior design.
Coming from a family in the car sales business for two generations, we know the value of great sales professionals. We recognize and appreciate when a company knows how to recruit and retain top talent — and Darlene is exactly that. My husband even tried to convince her to switch to car sales, but it’s clear she’s passionate about her interior design work, and we respect that immensely.

Read moreWe purchased a sofa from Brown Squirrel that was delivered on June 14th. The sofa arrived damaged with the bottom rail bent so the middle of the couch was “floating” and not touching the floor, and the recliner on one side was very difficult to close due to the rails being bent. I called and reported the damage on the same day of delivery. We were told this was covered under their warranty since it was delivered that way and was reported quickly. They supposedly ordered the parts to fix it back in June.
It has now been nearly 4 months since then and our couch is still not fixed! I genuinely can’t understand why. There has been no offer to replace the couch even though we bought a brand new couch that arrived damaged. Horrible communication the whole time. So at this point I’m left having to write this review.
We recently needed to furnish another room with a sectional and other furniture, but since we still have a couch that is not fixed from Brown Squirrel, we will not be returning with our business. Be careful if you choose to buy from them, inspect carefully before you sign for it, or you may be stuck with a damaged piece of expensive furniture for who knows how long!
UPDATE 10/6/25 - the day after leaving the 1 star review, brown squirrel called and said they were going to replace my couch. After only 1 week, the new couch was delivered. It’s unfortunate that in order to get my issue taken care of I had to leave a negative review. They said their policy is to attempt to fix the couch first if it arrives damaged, which I believe is a poor business model. Read moreAs I entered the business, I was immediately impressed and very relaxed as I began to search for the things that my wife and I need. Things were laid out and staged so well with multitudes of options, in every direction you looked, yet at the same time it felt very open and inviting.
From the moment that Randy greeted me, there was an authentic warmth and friendliness as we began to discuss why I was there. Randy listened to me closely and then started directing me towards things that fit exactly what we were looking for. There was never a moment where he tried to nudge me towards doing more or spending more or even doing less than what we needed. For us, functionality along with the aesthetic quality of the furniture that appeals to us and of course the price point are all three import. Randy helped me find exactly what we needed and checked all of those boxes.
Each trip in to clarify and move the process further was easy and I was always amazed at Randy’s knowledge of the products, as well as his willingness to answer every question I had, and find out the information if it wasn’t readily available.
Brown Squirrel has done an amazing job of expanding its business over the years and offering quality products as well as very intentional and engaged customer service. This has to start with the owners and flows down to every employee.
We love buying “local“ and we will definitely be back to Brown Squirrel many times in the years to come.
