Gene was a very good friend of my grandfather, James Long- Most knew him as Jim, a crossing guard for Kokomo School District. Gene had been his barber “since there were dinosaurs” they’d often tell me. All through my childhood, it was a bi-weekly ritual to spend an hour in this shop. I remember how glad Grandpa Jim was that Gene gave me my first haircut. He was such a staple of my childhood in Kokomo that, to me, this little shop is a bigger landmark than The Kokomo Gas Tower.
