California Firewood — Local services in La Mesa

I've been coming here for years to stock up on firewood for my parents each winter. Today, I came by to purchase my usual 1/4 cord, which typically fills their wood storage perfectly. Although the oak is on the pricier side, I've always trusted this place for their consistently high-quality, dry wood.

The staff loaded up the back of my SUV, and while it seemed like a bit less than usual, I didn't think much of it at the time (I even tipped them for the help). However, when I got home, I realized that the wood only filled about half of what it normally does.

Feeling disappointed, I decided to go back and pay for an additional wheelbarrow of wood. When I spoke with the young lady at the front desk, she was incredibly friendly, asked to see the picture I had taken, and even called one of the guys who had originally loaded my truck.

Long story short, they ended up giving me enough wood to fill the storage, which in previous years would have been full with just the 1/4 cord. However, during this process, all three of the workers made some disparaging remarks about me in Spanish, which was disheartening. They also questioned me extensively about the dimensions of my parents' wood storage, and while I wasn't sure of the exact measurements, I provided an estimate. One of the guys insisted my estimate was wrong, which added to the frustration. Despite offering to pay for the additional wood, the young lady refused to take payment.

Overall, I appreciate that they corrected the issue for a long-time customer, but I would have preferred to pay for the difference rather than feel ridiculed in the process. It seems like everything has gone up in price, or maybe in previous years I was given more wood...

I needed some last minute firewood for my camping trip. I went through the free ads on Craigslist, left messages, etc., but nobody called me back. I called this place, and figured a 1/4 cord was the smallest I could get. The person that answered was very friendly. I went there after work -- I only had about 30 minutes. When I pulled up, someone helped me right away. She was friendly and gave me the prices for a wheelbarrow load of wood. I wasn't sure what kind I wanted, so she helped me. She suggested a wheelbarrow of pine and oak (I told her 2 wheelbarrows sounded about right). They were $25 each, and they promptly loaded them in my truck. When I initially inquired, this business promised free delivery, but I was later charged a $50 delivery fee. When I called to address the issue, the representative (who identified herself as the manager) refused to remove the charge. I requested to speak with the owner or at least leave them a message, but she denied both requests, insisting the fee was non-negotiable.

As a regular customer who orders firewood monthly for my business, I expect transparency and fair treatment—especially when a promise was made upfront.
