I frequent this Kroger. I am not a fan of Walmart, and I don’t always have time to go farther into town to Al’s. Kroger is in a prime location for me. I grew up in central indiana going to lots of Krogers. Many memories made there with my grandma every Saturday. I always was impressed by how clean the store was, and friendly the staff was, as well as how well the shelves were stocked. I looked up to the workers. This Kroger doesn’t hit the mark. I see lots of reviews from 3-6 years ago saying how clean it was, and that the store got it’s act together together. Can we do that again? Before I say what really bothers me, I’ll start with the good.
There are some WONDERFUL workers here. The one guy (I forgot his name) always greets me as he stocks produce. He loves his job and people, and it shows. He puts a smile on my face. A few of the self checkout attendants are kind and helpful. They are attentive to ID checks, helping scan heavy items, and troubleshooting. The store also has good digital couponing opportunities. We save a good amount doing that. These things are why the store gets a 2 star instead of a 1.
The bad is that this sore is filthy in select areas. The worst one is the men’s restroom. The level of filth that I’ve never seen get cleaned up is disgusting. Trust me, it’s not wear and tear. It’s literal grime. Urine all over the floor and walls, hairballs in the corner, same boogers on the wall every time I come. Yes, I have that weird photogenic memory unfortunately. Nobody takes the time To clean. The soap doesn’t work half the time, the water sprays everywhere and the floor especially below the urinal and the hand dryer (which is scientifically disgusting compared to paper towels) is blackened and dripping with stench. My small bladder fails me again. I always hate having to go while there. It makes me nervous seeing that and wondering how clean the rest of the location is where we can’t see. Are the deli utensils getting cleaned and and sanitized properly? Hoping the same people aren’t in charge of the restrooms as other cleaning tasks. Also, I directly witnessed a few months ago a particular self checkout employee eating Cheetos (and actively ignoring my request for assistance) annoyedly suck the Cheeto dust off her fingers and then come touch the screen. I couldn’t touch it after, I had to use a napkin in my pocket. She rolled her eyes. Pretty unacceptable, considering these days when sicknesses Are rampant and I have an immune compromised person in my home.
As for some minor irritations, this particular location is lacking in stock. I used to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe I was just coming after long days, and honestly that could still be the case. I get that every place is understaffed. Trust me, I deal with that myself in the workplace. I can’t get enough reliable and honest hands to help me. But then I was coming in frequently as they opened. Stock still out on lots Of things. I just wish they had better stock.
Kroger, I thought long and hard before posting this. I revised it several times. I love to review places I frequent and was hoping to at least give you a 4 star but here I am. I am writing this in hopes that changes are made. Please have someone responsible supervise your troublesome colleagues who would rather hang out with friends or be on their phones in front of customers while on the clock; that bathroom could be so much better with a half hour of elbow grease and some Lysol.
Update 2/13/23 Went back to the men’s room again and it looks like this. Yikes. Please label your door with a...

Read moreNot the best Kroger I've been to by any means. Note: many of the photos are NOT of this location. Aisles are tighter than most grocery stores. Ad items are often sold out halfway through the week. Parking lot is small for as busy as the store gets. Workers are mostly pleasant, meat department is most disappointing as they are essentially closed after noon. As LaPorte grows, this location will need to grow, remodel and expand (which isn't possible in a strip mall), or move. It's my go-to grocer in town, but it's not the most pleasant shopping experience overall. Update 3-7: the store was closed yesterday earlier due to major health hazards (rodent infestation). Mice and rat droppings are everywhere. I've worked in grocery long enough to know that all stores have pests, but this store just shrugs its shoulders at the problem. They're more concerned with displays being perfectly straight than they are with cleanliness. When employees drop or spill something, they walk away. Management only cares about what sales numbers look like. The ONLY thing that should concern the leadership is the mice, rats, and other vexes they have. Sales numbers and display perfection mean nothing when the store is closed by the...
