La Porte County Public Library — Attraction in La Porte

this is the first time i’d ever felt the need to leave a review, i would leave a 1 star from today but it was just today with one worker that i’m giving a 3. i rented out the meeting room on the second floor, for my sons birthday party normally ALL of the staff is absolutely amazing! i usually come here very often wether it’s to print paperwork , file, etc… Today as we rented the room we were told in advance that we had the room for 4 hours , Katrina a worker at the library came in the room and was SUPER RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL! she stated “We don’t get overtime so you all need to hurry and get your stuff out” as she saw us already cleaning up the room she then continued to state “ it wasnt my fault that the company overbooked, you guys need to get out, we close in 10 minutes so you need to be out by then” as she walked out of the room rolling her eyes , there was about 15 witnesses in the room who saw & heard this happen! i then repeated back we were told we had the room for 4 hours , to another worker and asked what her name was, she came up behind me as i was speaking with another employee and she then decided to go back and forth and argue with me, following my husband and i down the stairs , which is when i told her i’d appreciate if she just stopped talking to me , she LITERALLY followed still talking crap to us out the door , she was just EXTREMELY RUDE! every other staff member was AMAZING , EXPECT KATRINA , never in my life have i seen someone so rude if you don’t like your job quit , but to laporte library please make sure your staff members treat people better! i won’t let this one person ruin laporte library for me but the disrespect was just so horrible had a great day until a interaction...

They will either order or arrange inter-library loan if they don't have what you need. **However, I was sad to see that they are missing many books from classic authors, historical figures, and cutting-edge independent researchers. This is a sadly growing trend in libraries these days and in media in general: truly authentic material getting replaced by new run-of-the-mill, forgettable works that follow the same format over and over. (The same trend we've been seeing in the last 20+ years with films and music.) You would think libraries would maintain old books and unique books, but sadly artifacts of the past get discarded (also happens with relevant information on the internet, once material is digitized, it can get conveniently altered.) I noticed that libraries were able to cleanse their records more thoroughly during Covid.

Still, the librarians are very kind and helpful....

Nice facility. The only issue I have is when you borrow a book from another library using this library. You only get two weeks, then you have to return book. I’d gotten a long book for vacation, vacation was delayed, so I tried to extend the book loan, “ Not possible.” Since I was halfway complete, I had to buy the book from Amazon. I will prob do that in the future since ordering, picking up, taking back, phone calls trying to extend were so much hassle. Next time order and enjoy. Programs like these are great, but a few instances like this will turn people like me away...
