Roxy Music — Local services in La Porte

So, I have quite the story. On January 31, I split the cost of a Gretsch with my friend on the day of the penny sale. We both walked out with guitars for a very very big discount. The universe brought the bad to counter the good, and less than 24 hours after my purchase, the soft case i was using broke at the shoulder, and it fell backwards, hit the cement, and broke at a 45° angle at the nut. Literally decapitated. I immediately called roxy. They told me to bring it in. Upon my arrival, I dealt with the owners son, who said he’d talk to his dad and figure out a plan. First thing in the morning, the owner contacts me via Facebook messenger. He tells me he’s gonna try to have his luthier take a shot at it. I was doubtful, due to the severity of the fracture. But, I said okay whatever because if it worked out great if not oh well i lost some money but not a lot due to the penny sale purchase. And today, i go back and get my gretsch, it’s as close to perfect as humanly possible as you could possibly get. In my 15 years of guitar playing, being in bands, and dealing with my fair share of repair, I truly thought that guitar was a lost cause and I was gonna try to work out a deal with the owner for maybe a pedal, and guitar of less value, something. But the roxy luthier made it so you can barely barely barely see the outline of the break. I didn’t know it was possible, but now she’s got a pretty cool scar in certain light! and to top it all off, due to the freak-ness of the accident, the owner cut the cost of the luthier repair in half with me! elite customer service. With this new owner, roxy music is the shit. not only do they have dare I say an on par if not better selection than guitar center, they have a small friendly crew that is knowledgeable and know their gear. if you want vintage guitars, go to the chicago music exchange. if you want a brand new name brand guitar for a great price, don’t go to guitar center don’t even go to sweetwater go to ROXY MUSIC! needless to say a hard case was...

Most disappointing. Impressive from the outside, when you enter the store you immediately see what they are geared towards which is guitars. If I were into guitars this place would be heaven. But since I was there to have two violins looked at, the experience was less than I would've hoped for. The perusal of my violins gave me no new information about the instruments that I hadn't picked up on my own. Understandably, Laporte is not a hotbed for luthiers. But what was most disappointing was when I inquired about violin lessons I was told that no violin lessons were provided to adult males due to the fact that their violin instructor was a teenager whose parents felt it inappropriate for her to teach males in a classroom setting, which I assume it would have been. I have no complaint with that parental philosophy as I too have a daughter. What bothers me is that Roxy music does not advertise this on their website. Would it be asking too much for Roxy music to a hire a violin instructor who is mature enough of age to be able to give instruction to ALL students, even a 67-year-old male. The special being offered for two free classes doesn't do much good for me. Perhaps it's about money, as the young lady who teaches seems to be making less than the average going rate for violin lessons. Perhaps Roxy music would have to charge more if they didn't hire a kid. I don't know. All I do know is that Roxy music's motto of "musicians helping musicians", is very much a fallacy. No help was given, or possible solutions considered to assist me. And finally, I have been in a number of the music shops in my lifetime but have never seen a violin section as pathetically put together as the one in Roxy music. Disorderly, chaotic, and...

We were in earlier today with a good amount of items to trade in, in hopes to get a bass my husband had been eyeing. If you’re aware of how trade values work at resale shops, you shouldn’t be surprised by what you’re offered. The offer we received was around the amount we were hoping for, but what I was particularly pleased with was the fairness of the trade we were able to make today and the willingness to help us get what we were wanting when we walked in since we had something specific in mind that we had discussed the last time we were in about a month ago.

We’ve been in there twice and walked out both times very pleased with both the owner and the prices we saw on the instruments in the store. There is a large assortment of items to look at for any budget. The owner was also kind enough to give us some food recs both times we went (we’re about 40 minutes away). While we only have tried one of the places, we’ve eaten there both times after going to Roxy 😂

I will also add, I am likely one of the most picky people when it comes to finding what I want in an instrument at the price I’m looking for, and he was nice enough to take the time to go through what he could get in and trying to help me find what I’d like to have and play. For now, I’ll be sharing this bass with my husband, but when I go for my own bass or eventually for the tele I’m eyeballing, we’ll definitely be heading back to Roxy.
