Damaged Parts of my car and wouldn't service a defective product they sold me
Paid $800 to have a radio installed in my vehicle a few years back, was a bluetooth radio that I requested they put in an aux cord so that I had the option if I ever needed it. And sure enough, this week my app on my phone wasn't working, so I plug in my MP3 player, and it only plays from half of the car's speakers. So I call back, tell them the situation, and they say I can drop it off for them to take a look and see what the issue is. They call me and say it's the Aux's input on the radio itself, behind the dash, where I would have no way of getting to it myself. Come to find out this is a defect with the model radio I was sold, and that this model radio isn't even sold anymore. I ask what can be done, and they try selling me another radio. Very hesitantly, they say that the warranty on their work is out, and that rather than attempting to service the defective radio to fix it, or taking care of a customer that has spent a little under a grand with your business and has in the past recommended people to you, decide it okay to try to sell me on another expensive radio. I voice this concern, that I'm disappointed that they weren't going to take care of me, but I appreciated them taking a look. To make matters worse, when I get back into my car and start driving home, I hear something shift in my back seat, and look to see that the contents of my center console and dash have been carelessly thrown all about my backseat flooring, a mess of coins and cards and plug adapters, which took me 15 minutes to clean, a blatant disregard to my belongings. To top it all off, I found the cable for my seating lights BROKEN at the plug, as it was forcefully ripped out of its port, rendering it completely unusable.
It is not an exaggeration to say that I will not be giving any more of my time or money to this business, and I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone. This place is shady and gives mechanics a bad name. Save yourself the trouble and visit any other audio store or just look up a YouTube video and do the work yourself. Guarantee it's a lot easier than you think,...
Read moreMultiple clips broken, panels cracked, and none of the speakers installed properly with removing the old rivets etc; seems the tech just cut and bolted where he could. One speaker was flopping with a single screw in it. The only thing done properly was wiring the amp up. The door lock mechanism was also broken, so now i can't properly lock the rear door.
Update: They ordered and fixed the pieces, though denied wrongdoing, then decided to replace my door handle trim without knowing how to do it. Instead of undoing the single bolt to slight the lock mechanism outx their tech pryed from the outside on the door, scratching my door and handle. Certain staff onsite responded aggressively and emotionally after I did not take " well the handle already has damage" as an answer, as the handle did have some faded or missing paint. The piece installed was so malformed from the installation that the handle could not close properly and eventually fell off a day later. Luckily, they agreed to repair it but then banned me from the location in the same breath for their own mistake. While most of the staff on site are kind, courteous, and professional; I believe certain individuals could use some improvement. Attached are photos from after the piece fell. I hope to make individuals considering this business, aware of the risk they are taking.
Update pt2: devided to remove the rear interior panels I paid almost $200 for then to sound deaden, just to discover little to know sound deadening done, and what was donenwas literally falling off. If I had known the con artists these people were, I'd have never wasted my time with their idiocracy. It's a shame that businesses like this survived covid while others failed. I would implore whoever goes here to either go somewhere else or do it yourself. If you must go to these people, be willing to check over everything they did because their only goal is to pump jobs out as fast as possible with little care to the...
Read morehave been using Ricky Smiths to do wiring for me since 2009.. brought my 2020 Toyota there today for a simple amp wire install. they charged me for the wrong wiring kit, then installed the wrong kit even though i had the correct one they sold me in the front seat... which i told them when i dropped the car off. they then argued with me saying that i needed an 8g kit when i DEFINITELY needed a 4g kit (which was in the front seat). when they realized they were wrong they had to start from scratch. charged me for that too. somehow they damaged the airbag system in my car, will have to bring it to toyota to get it fixed, who knows how much that will cost. there's a constant warning of airbag malfunction on the dash. they used an obnoxious fuse tap for the remote wire, cracked a fuse near it in the process, and the cover doesn't fit back on because the tap sticks out an inch (never seen that before). they broke one of the trim panel pieces near the back door, it doesn't stay on anymore, they didn't put the back seat back on correctly, instead of leaving the battery cover on the positive terminal off, they just broke it so it could fit and put it back on. JUST TAKE IT OFF AND PUT IT IN MY CAR YOU CLOWNS, they were condescending the entire time i was there. not what i've grown to expect from ricky smiths. unfortunately this will be my last time doing business with them. a simple wire install will probably end up costing me thousands in repairs to get my airbags working again.
edit; they unplugged the electronics for the seatbelt and didn't plug them back in causing the car to throw an airbag code that only toyota can clear. they paid to fix it. they've got some sense of doing what's right in the end, but still my last time here...
