Today was our second visit to this place, I was excited about writing a review because of how much I enjoys our first experience. It really is an unfortunate circumstance but I have to share. Upon arrival the hostess was very polite and accommodating (we had our two month old in the car seat). We order drinks and food, wife had the Cubano I had the BBQ plate with chopped brisket, we both were really excited about the variety of BBQ sauces. About the same time our food came out a gentleman came and sat in the lobby, who persistently hacked and coughed and then recalled the mucus or phlegm in his throat. Really hard to put into words, but as I was just getting into my meal I felt that instead of the delicious brisket I had a chuck of this guys sinus material in my mouth, if that sounds disgusting I apologize, but this is how I experienced my meal. I eventually just stopped eating finished about 15% of my brisket and had some of the sides. I had finished a beer waiting on food and when my second came out I was already beyond consuming anything. I heard another customer waiting to be seated mention “ thank god I’m not eating right now that’s disgusting “ and I think another table near us may have been affected. I made loud comments about how disturbing it was so as the hostess may hear me and perhaps ask the gentleman to wait outside, I contemplated complaining to someone but I just typically don’t do that. All in all I had a couple bites of my food the waitress asked if I wanted a to go plate I told her I lost my appetite and she took it away. I didn’t take a sip of my second $8 10oz beer at this point I was just completely over the whole experience. I don’t know the solution to this, but I did think afterwards if I worked there I would have asked the guy to wait outside. Again Mid City I hate to leave a negative review but I planned to review todays visit and I paid for a meal I couldn’t eat it… what would someone else do in this situation?? These are photos of our first visit about a month ago. It was good then and I’m sure I would have enjoyed it today if it wasn’t for the experience. Right after the waitress took away our food the gentleman received his order which he apparently was just picking up and left. May or may not go back this kinda ruined my vibe...

Had 8 friends drive in from out of town and we chose one of our favorite lafayette restaurants - Tchoups. Made a reservation and arrived at 5:00 for 10 on the patio. We had an event that started at 7 so figured we had plenty of time. During 2 hours of waiting, we never even received all of our drinks. We kept being told bartender was “backed up” but working on it. Once we were ready to order entrees at about 5:45, the waitress told us that the kitchen was on a “hold” and not taking orders at that time. Restaurants get busy, I get it. So we ask for the waitress to get an estimate wait on kitchen. After 30min and no answer, we then ask for our checks to leave so we can eat something before our show. Fast forward another 30min to 6:30, we never received our bill. I had to walk to the hostess to speak with manager. I even offered to pay for entire meal with my card to expedite things but was told she was stop “working on it.” When we finally get our checks, the waitress tells one of us at the table that his drink is finally ready so we asked for it to be removed.

We love this restaurant and it was one of our favorites to visit, but with such a failure to meet standards when we invite 8 friends from out of town - disappointment is an understatement. We never ate! I wasn’t expecting a free meal, but nothing was comped. The manager offered me a $20 gift card for our “next visit.”

From there, we left and ended up waiting in line at the Cajun dome for a hotdog for 45min while the show went on.

In the almost 2 hours spent there, some of us never received our initial alcoholic drink orders!

I have never taken time to write a review because I have never seen such a failure at a restaurant on every level, yet here we are. This attempt at a dinner ruined an evening with friends that had been planned for months. I really hope this restaurant can get their stuff together enough not to let this happen to others. Such a...

Tried to reserve a table because my large family who hasn’t seen eachother in 20+ years to be polite to the wait staff, which wasn’t allowed apparently. My cousin said she tried to do the same and was told no res. Cool. So I get there early and inform the person at the podium. Super long embarrassing story later: I need up being yelled at, condescended upon, and I’m pretty sure the small blonde girl with the tattooed wrist was just mad because my first interaction with her were very rude as well. Ava helped get us a table together and me and man were sitting there eating our appetizers when my family was seated at the other end of the restaurant. There was literally no one else there. I tired walking over to my family but there is a small hall where the waitress was blocking me and I asked my boyfriend what he said and she screams at me ‘what you said I said’ lol I was like no, I’m talking to him.. pretty sure she bowed up to me, she’s very lucky I’m not the person I used to be with severe angry issues. The manager was absolutely zero help and she witnessed the entire situation. Then the waitress walks over to my family and I hear her say ‘those people claim your with them..’ I laugh, and I guess my aunt was confused and she says again ‘those two people over there your with them?’ Lmao as of I don’t know my OWN FAMILY… I’ve never been so insulted in my life by wait staff anywhere. This place is great. I think she had a bad day; she ruined my night with my family who I’ll most likely never see again because our grandmother has passed; which was the reason we were together there last night. T when I say the manager gave zero fuhqs I mean zero. Should have stayed home and avoided this entire mess of a fiasco. Will do in the future this is exactly why people do not like goin out....

What a lovely little restaurant hidden in plain sight. I regret not taking more photos for this review. Their menu has some unique items, all of which I do not regret trying. The tomato and bacon salad was refreshing, it had a lot of unique flavor and personality. The cheddar corn grits were also an interesting unique item I've never seen anywhere else and went quite well with the rest of the food. I ordered the Whole Hog, which comes with a sampling of each of the smokehouse meats and four sides. It's an excellent choice for anyone who likes variety or is indecisive. Choose your preferred sauce and enjoy, everything was tender and flavorful. Honestly guys, excellent job. The pulled pork queso was packed with flavor and toppings, and the chips are seasoned! This isn't something I really see at other restaurants, but it does the dish justice. They also use corn tortilla chips as opposed to flour tortillas, it's a nice change of pace. The interior is absolutely charming and so cozy, the bar and waiting area are so cute. It does no skimp on southern charm. In the back there is outdoor seating as well for people, but there is also a section where you can bring your leashed pets. This is a huge win. They also have a handicap accessible ramp on the back side of the building for those in wheelchairs. Overall they provide an excellent dining experience and it's definitely something to try. I for sure will be going back as I find it's hard to find a smokehouse restaurant with good flavor and variety. Not to say that we don't have others around, but they are still very few and far between.

I was convinced to go here by a friend. My response was, I live in Texas and you don’t go to Louisiana for bbq and I most certainly didn’t come to LA to try it. He kept on and I finally caved. I loved the house and atmosphere, and the staff were super hospitable! But let’s cut to the chase. The meat (I got dark chicken) was sub-par, cold, and tough, and the macaroni was gritty and almost bland. But the cornbread and baked beans were divine! I also ordered burnt ends for an additional $3 and I don’t know what those were but they weren’t burnt ends. They were these thick, rubbery, square pieces of meat but the flavor was good. I also think most people expect there to be fresh brewed tea at bbq joints but not here. All they had was bottled tea. Then as we were leaving, one of the cooks came to the back to unload some things from his car and we almost got high just walking past him, which makes me wonder about who was handling the food. You can see into the kitchen and watch them cook the food and I noticed no one was wearing gloves or any other food service accessory. This is why I’m giving 3 stars. So while the food wasn’t great, the service and surroundings were, and those alone would convince me to give them a second chance. Maybe next time I’ll order the pulled pork and cheese grits and be wowed! Cross your fingers!
