I've been a loyal customer for years until a negative incident with the owner occurred. The store was open at 8:30 pm on a Thursday night, and their outdoor sign even states that the store didn't close until 9 pm. My brother even saw the large "Open" sign brightly lit outside their door. When we walked in, it was the usual kind greeting from the young cashier. He was quick to offer help but we simply stated we would browse around for a few minutes, to which he politely agreed to and continued to attend other clients. As we were just about to make our selection, we were suddenly confronted by the owner who seemed stressed out by something. He quickly hit us with questions such as "What are you looking for? Why are you back here?" And when we were trying to explain that we were simply browsing and were already offered help, he became noticeably aggressive and cut me off by saying "Yeah well the store is technically closed, so you two aren't even supposed to be in here." And this is where it all went south. First I pointed out how the sign clearly said 9 pm was the closing time, and his response? The pandemic had affected their store hours so the sign outside is no longer reflective of their true business hours. When I asked why he still keeps the sign up even though it can easily mislead someone, he had the audacity to say it's the customer's responsibility to figure out the true hours and that he doesn't have to remove the sign if he doesn't want to. When I asked why he didn't confront the other clients who were in the store at the same time as us, he said they were part of a card-playing group and that the hours posted outside only applied to them and not the actual store. So why was the store door wide open along with the Open sign still lit up, and why didn't the cashier notify us about the store supposedly being closed? That's when he accused us of lying and got visibly angry, kicking us out of the store and telling us to get out. At that moment, I pulled out a video camera and his entire demeanor changed. Suddenly he was trying to be empathetic and trying to de-escalate the situation, despite continuing to accuse us of being liars and wanting to cause a scene at his store... When he was the one who aggressively approached us while minding our own business. He has given us nasty looks before on many seperate visits to the store but we never thought anything of it, until now of course. The owner is a sad, angry little man who blames everything & everyone around him for his own shortcomings. Absolutely despicable behavior and I will no longer be spending...
Read moreI've been coming here for a while now and have spent quite a bit here also. I have always been pleased with the service. Today, I took both of my children here to choose something to read. The owner, Rob was great. He has always been spleasant to me. The books come in plastic bags. The book was plants vs. Zombies zomnibus vol. 1. It retails for 19.99. We get to the car and my son, who is 6, takes it out of the bag and opens it. The words are kind of small so he really didn't like it. So I go back in and let him choose 2 other books that are both 9.99. We go up to ask one of the other guys that work there if we can do an even swap. It hasn't even been that long since our previous purchase. He told me, if he didn't like the book, they can't swap it. He then told me a couple more times that if my son,who is 6, doesn't like a book, can't swap it for another one. I didn't even want a return. I just wanted to swap the book for something he would like. Feeling like he disrespected my 6 year old for not making a good choice about a book that was bagged that he knew nothing about, we left. I then decided to call and ask the owner if he could swap the book. He was cordial and said there wasn't a problem. So we went back in and the same gentleman came up and started lecturing me on the fact that this is the only time that they would do this. He then kept talking about how if a child comes in and doesn't like a book that they can't swap books. They would not have lost any money. Instead, because of someone deciding to be rude, giving me an attitude, and leaving me and my 6 year old feeling disrespected for a single bad choice, he lost rob, the owner, thousands in future...
Read moreThis place does not honor retail prices. Want to buy cards? Prepare to pay up to triple value for a starter deck. Want to buy comics? They literally put their own sticker price over the price on the books so you can’t see what they actually retail for. It sucks because this is one of the few places around here but they have scalper prices on everything. A couple months ago I was trying to find issue 2 of a comic series. I asked a worker if they had it and he was very rude about it and said they wouldn’t be getting any more in stock. Went back a week ago and guess what? They had it! For double the price on the cover. It’s hard to support this place but they’re one of like three places in the whole AV. The only thing I buy now is comics that actually sell for their retail value and don’t support their...
