Moon Valley Nurseries — Local services in League City

An added note - this is the response I sent over 2 weeks ago when they solicited my review by email. They use a platform that blocks anything under 4 stars from going straight to Google reviews, but the purpose of that app is to harvest those low ratings and try to fix them. Since they haven't bothered, I'll share myself. The plants are mostly good. However the process for pricing out the removal of the existing plants was very bad. There is no formal price, no quote. We were exceptionally clear that we had very established bushes, and even provided numerous pictures. We were told, oh yes, they guys will remove the plants, just give them a tip $200-300 should do it. Salesman says if he charges it, he gets the commission from it and not the guys so let them have it, like it's some sort of favor. Then they get there, days after the original scheduled date, and they want twice as much as we were expecting to pay - $600. We're sitting there with over $3K of plants, dying on the back of a truck, and facing a restocking fee if we refuse. This was very dishonest and predatory. We were quite disappointed in this misleading sales process. Plus they were missing one of the plants, and it took a week and 4 requests to get it installed. Another one of the plants was tiny and unhealthy, and when I asked for the warranty to be used on it, I was told you were "out of lantanas". I requested and received a refund. However now I'm left with sourcing another plant and installing it myself. The mulch that was put down, barely covering the roots of the plants, grew mushrooms and slime mold almost immediately and still is producing various fungi. The only reason this is 2 stars and not 1 is because the rest of the plants are nice. I won't be returning or recommending...

Update May 23, 2024: Another great experience with the folks at Moon Valley! Unfortunately we had to have one of our bay laurels replaced. Juan Carlos and his crew were friendly, quick, did great work and left my yard and walk areas super clean. Actually they left them way better than they found them. There’s no doubt in my mind that they completely know how to provide great customer service. Thank you!!!

Dec 2023: Let me first say I would definitely recommend Moon Valley to a friend.

We were completely impressed with Moon Valley Nurseries!! They communicate well and they do what they say they are going to do. From the beginning it was great working with Elena on the selection of what we were going to plant in place of the plants which died and had to be cut down. Then Juan and his crew did a great job removing the old, large stumps. They took great care to avoid a gas line and took care of my sprinkler system piping. They were very professional, cleaned up well, and wanted to make sure I was satisfied. The planting crew showed up a few days later, led by Eddy. These guys did a great job as well!! They were prepared for any contingency and Eddy worked with me on final placement of the seven Bay Laurels they planted. Eddy’s crew were very particular and took great care with each detail of planting and cleaned up afterwards. Eddy texted me care and watering instruction and answered all my questions. Because these plants are 7 to 8 feet tall this was an investment in our property.

We are very satisfied with this investment in our property and the professionalism and care that Moon Valley provided.

As I said before, we would definitely recommend them...

While I will give them credit for having some nice looking plants, look elsewhere and I promise you that you will find equally as excellent quality at substantially lower prices. I was very excited to find some harder to find plant here but floored by the price tags. Just a few phone calls later and a 15 minute car ride I saved almost $500 off the price of just 4 plants I was looking for. If that’s the price they can get, then fair enough and more power to them, but that’s not the reason for the one star…

Their staff needs a lesson in professionalism. Walking into the office felt like a imposition. One person greeted us with a friendly hello but the others barely looked up from they computer screens to acknowledge our existence. Unfortunate for us the friendly one was leaving so we were left to deal with someone that was visibility not really wanting to be helpful. I assume we interrupted his minesweeper game or something. We inquired about a few different plants we wanted and were met with such attitude I was take aback a little. My parter and I agreed that it seemed like he felt we were unable to afford the items mentioned and in no way did he seem to want to deal with us at all. The “just go away” vibe was palpable.

But I guess that’s a good thing for me. Had he been helpful, nice and accommodating, I probably would have plunked down my cash for those plants and been out an extra $500.

Long story short. Feels like an upscale used car lot. This place is run by salesmen and not people that care about the plants or the customer. Find a local nursery and...
