I would not recommend attending here. I took the Information Technology course at the Lehi Campus. When I had my first meeting with a counselor to discuss taking the course they seemed annoyed that I scheduled an appointment before registering for a class. After registering for the class I was required to schedule another appointment with a counselor in order to take the class. When discussing the way the class worked I was told it was a "go at your own pace class". It really should have been called "a teach it yourself class". The first couple days of the class involved orientation, like any other class, but after orientation one might think that the class would start and the teacher would begin teaching. Unfortunately, the teacher gives you a playlist from YouTube to watch and sits quietly at his desk. You are not provided with anything else to study. This is how the class goes for weeks. At one point he did show us how to make an Ethernet cable (which was not on the exam) and talked about his job experiences in the past, aside from that the teacher doesn't teach anything. Those first weeks you are supposed to be studying and learning to work towards being able to pass the ITF+ certification from CompTIA. A week before the exam, when the teacher gives you websites to look at, which I had already found in my previous attempts to study. The ITF+ is supposed to be the intro for those that don't know much about the IT field. From what I understand in the past the school offered an IT Fundamentals course that you were required to take before you could take the IT Technician course. They have now combined the two classes, and claim you will be provided the curriculum for both in the combined class. They use Canvas to give you assignments and provide access to the class, which could be useful, but the due dates that are shown are not accurate and when you ask questions regarding it, the answers that given dance around the question and don't help clear anything up. After studying any online material available and watching as many YouTube videos as I could find I was able to pass any practice test, I could find on the Internet, with a fairly decent score. When I took the actual exam I barely passed. Many of the questions on the exam were not even covered by the YouTube videos the teacher provided. At one point, after completing the first certificate, the school was having computer problems (ironic that it was in the IT classes) with their ability to provide the individual parts of the course the students and we were literally twiddling our thumbs for days, but were required to be in class according to the attendance policy. The teacher did take an hour one day to explain "how to pick yourself" and how making certain choices in your life and connecting with the right people can help you be successful. Taking that into consideration, I would highly recommend thinking twice about taking this course. After they figured their computer problems out we were given multiple sections of the course at all at once, then two weeks later the teacher says one of them needed to be completed by the end of the day and one didn't actually need to be done at all. There had been no notification before hand to determine the due date on the portion that needed to be completed by that the end of the day. If you fail or fail to complete one of the areas you have to pay to retake the part, which would be understandable, except they are not providing any educational instruction to help you pass. You can find online classes for cheaper, with curriculum other than YouTube videos, and you can do them in your own time, which have the same quality as this school. If you can handle no communication and no education, this...
Read moreI was in the web development class. Communication among the instructors is not very good. I thought having developers teach the course would have been a good thing but they aren't teachers. In a university setting you know the entire lay out of the course and an estimated time of when things are due. It would have been nice to have worth while projects to help us in the industry that we are going into. We were not notified on when particular projects were due until a couple weeks before the due date. The organization of the program could have been a lot better of the order of when languages are taught. I would have liked to be given examples of how our learning transfers to a real project. Many times when questions are asked there is still confusion because either the student doesn't know what question to ask or the instructor tries to answer it and doesn't know how to answer it in different ways that could be understood. When it comes to the externship there are languages that you are expected to know that aren't even taught in this program. Then you go into the externship feeling not prepared and thinking why did I waste my time taking this class if I wasn't taught or exposed to languages within the industry. They say that everyone will be given an externship but when it comes down to it that isn't the entire story. I had done my homework in searching for a web development program and thought that this would be good due to the attractive price and that its sponsored through a great company, Xactware. If I was in the beginning deciding what to do I wouldn't have done this program and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you've gone and taken some computer science courses or had a solid understanding of development. Then again why would you do a program like this if you are planning on getting a computer science degree anyway! My recommendation is to not waste your money on this program, its...
Read moreDon't go here. The surgical tech program will destroy your confidence. While the original program coordinator left (According to several doctors I've spoken to, she "has a reputation") the other three teachers we worked with are still there. Steven frequently uses the "r" word in his vernacular. He even used that word when talking about doctors that we would potentially work with. When asked to stop, he said "I can say whatever I want". My classmates and I were confused as to why Amber, who has the least amount of experience, having worked in an OR less than a year, was teaching there. She didn't handle push back from us whatsoever. She literally yelled in the face of a student when they suggested a better way to manage our lab time, since Amber does not have good time management skills. When asked about her teaching methods, she would say "because I'm the teacher and I decide". There was no explanation. Finally, Christine yells a lot and cannot communicate in an adult manner. She threw a light handle across the room when a student didn't do well on a practice lab and she's made students cry. None of these teachers are professional, even though they claim to be. When asked questions, they wouldn't answer them or they would respond to us in a condescending way. Frequently they would tell us doctors would throw instruments or yell at us if we messed up. They legitimately scared us and some of us were dreading externship. There is a severe lack of encouragement. Don't go to this program. Save yourself the hassle. While I felt somewhat prepped to start working, the anxiety and undue stress that came with this training...
