Nothing like a great first impression. I was in the market to buy a specific new kayak very late in the season and quickly found no one in my area had it in stock. I could find it online but wasn't thrilled about having to pay a $150 shipping charge; and quickly found many posts where people said their kayaks were damaged during shipping. I decided to avoid having one shipped and would be willing to drive a much further distance to pick one up (if found). Having extended my search, I came across Great Bay Outfitters where Paul answered the phone. He explained to me that they didn't have any in stock and most places were done ordering any new shipments for the year. However, he didn't stop there. He told me that if I was willing to hold off a few days, he was going to be at the Atlantic City boat show and sometimes there is enough interest in late season or holiday purchases that they would be willing to place an order with the manufacturer. Paul got back to me exactly when he said he would and unfortunately told me there was not enough interest to place an order. Jump ahead another week or two and Paul contacted me to say that he was traveling up to North Jersey to pick up a kayak from another dealer and learned they had the kayak I wanted in stock. He asked if I was still interested and he would pick it up for me. He also offered to drop it off at my house free of charge after noting I was only about 15-20 minutes out of the way on his route back to Great Bay Outfitters. I love the kayak (Old Town Loon 12.0) and was thrilled with the service and his "follow-through". Great first impression and I look forward to doing more business with them...
Read morePurchased an Old-town sportsman PDL 120 from this outfitter about 3 weeks ago. All of my past experiences have been horrible on kayaks. I have never had the ability to balance on them (6ft 200lbs) I am an avid fisherman and wanted access to water I am unable to fish from bank. In particular fly fishing. Talked to a few places, ie big boxes stores about kayaks and it was the worst. Decided to take a drive to this outfitter. Both gentleman were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Both were avid kayakers as well. They made me feel confident in picking a kayak that would be stable and suit my needs. I was apprehensive, but I trusted there experience and it was an excellent choice. The store is well stocked with many different kayaks as well as whatever accessories you would like. They helped me understand how to properly use it, load, and unload. If you are really interested in having a great kayak experience, then Great Bay Outfitters is who you want to speak too. Great team over there. Easy to talk to and work with. I have had the kayak on the water for 5 trips now and at no point did I feel uncomfortable. I am now standing on the kayak and casting like I’m on a dock. Zero regrets. Would recommend this outfitter to anyone that asks for my input. First fish on the fly on a kayak. Small but...
Read morePaul was super helpful when I was looking to purchase a new fishing kayak. I am new to kayak fishing so he was very patient in answering all my questions. The best part was they had a kayak available for me to demo. I was familiar with a Hobie Outback and the Mirage Drive but wanted to check the feel of an Old Town 120 PDL and their pedal drive system. I called a few different places in the tri state area but only Paul was able to arrange a demo.
The demo really helped me make the final decision. I am now a proud owner of an Ember Camo Old Town Sportsman PDL 120. When it came to kayak accessories there are a plethora of options out to deck out your new rig, Paul helped with pointing out things that I could do without till I gained more experience on the water. I appreciate his honesty in that area to steer me away from making purchases I didn't really need for the time being.
I had a great experience making my kayak purchase with Great Bay Outfitters. I encourage folks to check...
