In 2021, my daughter was gifted a turtle who she named Shelly. Two weeks ago, my daughter noticed Shellyâs eye swollen. I contacted online reptile veterinarians who informed me that Shelly was Vitamin A deficient and could benefit from a new light and a Vitamin A shot. They informed me to take her into a reptile veterinary near me to get her the shot. I contacted alleged veterinarians who specialized in reptiles; I took Shelly to the one who sounded more competent than the others. They couldnât tell me much. I asked about the type of tortoise we had, the age, and confirmation of gender, they couldnât tell me anything. They gave me eye drops and it took me to inform them of the Vitamin A deficiency and request the shot. They literally said âOh yeah, that sounds about right.â They didnât have the shot readily available so I had to bring her back days later. Eye drops for 10 days, eye remained swollen and now she wasnât eating, it had been 13 days and I grew impatient, hopeless, and scared which made me start looking for an alternative search for help.
I figured if reptile stores exist, surely there must be a specialist who checks on the reptiles and knows what to do, right? Wrong. I called three reptile stores before Agustinâs and they apologized and told me that they sale them, but really do not know how to treat them in matters in my case. I called Agustinâs Exotic Birds and Reptiles and they were so helpful. They invited me to bring Shelly so that they can check it out and I did just that.
The owner Agustin was present, took Shelly and immediately began to assess her. First, he confirmed that Shelly was a âheâ teaching me how to tell the difference between male and female and was able to confirm the specific type of tortoise âRussian tortoise.â He educated me on the bedding he requires and the light needed to gain his strength back. He was able to clean the eye, remove the puss and place ointment on its eye. Additionally, Agustin was able to get Shelly to eat a little bit. He invited me to bring him back in two days to further asses his health.
Unfortunately, Shelly passed away one day later, but Iâm so grateful to have met Agustin, his passion, expert knowledge, and dedication to reptiles and birds is commendable. I kick myself for not thinking to look into a reptile store sooner, but now I know where I will go if my children ever decide that theyâre ready for another reptile or bird.
Shelly was apart of our family and Agustin treated my concern seriously and with care.
I donated all of Shellyâs accessories and food to Agustin as I know it will go to good use.
Thank you Agustin, our family...
Read moreAgustin's is my #1 bird and reptile (and now, rat) store! Way back when he worked at Animal Lovers, we got a cockatiel from him and he was always so professional and knowledgeable with beak and wing trims.
Now, over 12 years later, I've moved out and have a roommate. One thing led to another and we ended up in Agustin's back room looking a small rat to keep as a pet. Agustin helped us get everything we needed to be successful with our small rat (who we named Pickle), and then we took the little guy home. A few months later, we got him a friend (Peaches) to keep him company. Unfortunately, Peaches started having some breathing issues, and when we called Agustin to ask him what to do about it, he told us to bring him in and he let us switch out the potentially sick rat with a healthy one. I was sad about losing Peaches, but Agustin wanted to make sure we had healthy rats, and convinced us that it was for Pickle's safety too. So we agreed, and switched out Peaches for a new small rat we named Opey. These boys are the friendliest and sweetest little rats and I'm so grateful to Agustin for being so accommodating and understanding.
If you want a trustworthy, straightforward guy who genuinely cares about all the animals he looks after, then Agustin is your man. I wouldn't trust Opey and Pickle's nail and teeth trims with...
Read moreI love this place! My family and I purchased a hand tamed cockatiel from this store and she was the most well adjusted and the sweetest baby bird ever! She immediately became such a big part of our family and grew into a beautiful, kind and strong little parrot. We return to this store regularly to get food and supplies for our Dumpling and I am so grateful we chose this place to purchase our bird from over dozens of private breeders on Craigslist whose birds might have been cheeper but you just never know how they were treated before getting into your home. I trust the people in this store and would definitely recommend Augustin's bird store to anyone hoping to find a healthy and a friendly parrot companion đŚ đ I should also mention that this store is the most beautiful pet store I have ever been in and always very clean and...
