I went to Harbor Freight to browse around and see if there was anything that I needed on the last day of the July clearance sale. While browsing I noticed some things on a shelf in the back of the store that were marked down, because they had been used and returned, or had been opened and maybe an item, or two was missing. There was this battery powered drill with the charger in a case that had a sticker on it that looked like it had been marked down a time, or two, so I took a look at it and asked one of the store assistants if the drill worked. He checked it and it did, so I thought about it for awhile and although I really didn't need the drill, it was marked at $12, so I decided to offer them $10 to see how bad they wanted to sell it. The clerk at the register said, are you serious and I said yes I was. So he said, I'll go ask my manager. So I stood there waiting for quite a while and finally the clerk returned and told me that the sticker on the box was marked wrong and that the drill was an supposed to be $80. Well that wasn't true, because they were actually selling for $45. So then he tells me that the battery is what was $12. By this time I'm getting tired of the run around and not too happy with the attitude. I almost felt like they were accusing me of tampering with the price, or the sticker--they didn't, but it felt uncomfortable and I didn't like it. If they had offered to sell it to me for the $12 price that was on the case, I would have paid it and been on my way.
I know this probably sounds petty, but I kind of feel like I was baited and switched, or more likely just disappointed that I didn't get the bargain I wasted my time thinking about. And now here I am wasting more time grumbling about it. That's okay though, I like your store and I've bought several tools that so far have turned out well. This incident doesn't feel good and I'll get over it,...
Read moreMassive tool and hardware overload. But, organized and affordable.
As Walmart used to be my goto place for all things project related and affordable, now Harbor Freight has replaced them. Since Walmart downscaled all stores to be less inclusive to the home owner, and Home Stores raised prices to attract mostly expensive home owners and jobbers with larger budgets, Harbor Freight filled the void that resulted by Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot.
If you absolutely MUST have the most expensive tool, don't come here 1st-- they may not have it. Some of their products are really great and high quality, and some are definitely offered as loss leaders and to attract the bargain hunters and also to lower their APP, (Average Price Point)

Read moreYesterday I bought a portable greenhouse on sale supposedly because the box had been opened. Nowhere did it say that this thing had been well used was missing a door zipper, several parts needed to assemble it missing and not just dirty but torn in several places and the stitching coming apart. I spend all morning putting the frame together which took forever because it is damaged in several places but assuming the thing was complete I figured "oh well so it's used, as long as it works I can deal with that" only to discover the missing parts and damaged cover after struggling with the frame for a few hrs. Without a cover the whole thing is useless..i never would've bought this if I knew it was useless. Like if it said "open box, broken, bent , dirty, torn, missing parts needed for assembly" I suppose that the reason it didn't say any of that is because no one would buy it if they knew it was unusable. Now if they will take it back I have to spend even more time taking the frame apart and repackaging...
