I recently visited the Rent-A-Center on Meister Road in Lorain to check out refrigerators since mine had stopped working. The initial interaction with Jose, one of the employees, was positive—he was knowledgeable and patient as he walked me through the options and payment details. However, when I couldn’t find my ID and mentioned having an image in my email, Jose was willing to work with me and suggested I could either send it to their email or return with the physical ID.
During this conversation, a manager stepped in and took over with a more abrupt tone, emphasizing documentation needs in a way that felt dismissive of both me and Jose’s handling of the situation. It was unsettling, especially as a professional Black woman who values respect in customer service interactions. I didn’t feel heard or supported, which led me to leave and ultimately purchase from Home Depot instead.
