It's Not Trash — Local services in Los Angeles

Marji and her team are INCREDIBLE. Wayfair, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. - it's nice that they're trying to serve the masses, but the furniture we've purchased from those businesses has almost always been low-quality and high-priced. We found Marji because we had purchased a Home Depot California King bed frame that was so shoddy, it was like sleeping on toothpicks. Every time one of us moved in the bed, the other was jostled and jiggled like a bowl of Jello. If you dared to roll-over, the frame sagged and creaked - like it was going to buckle. A friend referred us to Marji and we now have a sturdy, beautiful bed frame that is made to last the rest of our lives. We can roll over, we can even throw ourselves on the bed... and nada, the bed frame doesn't even flinch. Did I mention it's stunning? The icing on the cake: her prices are fair considering all of the above. It did cost more than we paid for our Home Depot bed frame, but not that much more, and let's keep in mind, Marji's work is actually useable.

I love Marji's mission of building things to last instead of Wayfair and Home Depot's mission of building for obsolescence. She makes me feel good about my home, my Earth and my sleep. Thank you, Marji....

I stumbled upon Itsnottrash while looking for a custom bookshelf maker in Los Angeles and I knew I wanted to go with them the minute I saw what a unique and environmentally conscious small business they are. Marjorie spent over an hour with me for a phone consultation helping me narrow down on what I was looking for. Once her team gets started on the project, they send regular photo updates to keep you in the loop to make sure you’re happy with the progress. I had asked for some cabinets inspired by Frida Kahlo’s home in Mexico City and sent Marjorie some of my personal photos from a visit there. She really took that in her stride - found some vintage cabinets she had salvaged and painted them the colors of “La Casa Azul” and finished them with vintage handles. She truly has a great eye and vision and will go above and beyond to fulfill yours. Besides this amazing and unique bookshelf, she also made me custom floating shelves with a fluted back. It looks amazing in our living room. I’m so happy I found Itsnottrash and if you’re lucky enough to live in an area where they serve, do not hesitate to try them out. Cannot recommend Marji and her team enough.

After moving we just weren’t loving any of our options for a bed (price, quality, design, you name it). Happened to hear about Its Not Trash on Reddit, and my husband and I loved what we saw on her instagram. We also liked the idea of having something custom made out of reclaimed wood, while also supporting a local woman owned business. Bonus points for the price being comparable or better than most of the beds we looked at!

Started with the bed and ended up also having custom shelves designed and installed by her team (shoutout to Riley!) for a nook we have. We got updates every step of the way and were able to make little adjustments here and there as needed.
