Went to mens department to find dress shirt for my son. I looked around to ask if someone could measure him but there was no one around to help. I look over and behind a pillar there were 4 employees hanging out by the water coooler/register. So I ask the older lady that was there if some one was available for measuring and she turns away says something in Armenian to the other gentlemen that were standing there. So for the next few seconds I'm standing there feeling awkward because I dont if she heard me or if needed to repeat myself. Just as i was about to ask again, one of the guys grabs measuring tape and walks over to us and measures my son. Off we go to find a shirt in the size he suggested. I was ready to just grab and pay but I thought that maybe it was best he try it on just in case. Well, what do you know.. it was too small! So I when i looked for one that was just one size up, the only one there was dirty. So then I said, well, let's go just another half size up and I pulled it and had him try and it was to big... like a case of goldilocks and the three bears. So finally I grab the one that was dirty and told my son that the vest would hide it (he needs it for today) again, I open it and he tries it and it fits perfectly. As I am walking towards the register, my son points out a sign that says not to open shirts. Welp, back I go to button up the two that we weren't taking because now I feel bad.. mind you, this whole time the employees are still standing by register talking.. as I am buttoning one upon one of the ladies that was in the suit department, walks past me and smile and immediately turns around to say something to the lady from the shirt department again, in Armenian. It was obvious that she was tattle telling on me and the shirt dept lady (the one who I asked to measure my son in the first place) immediately came to me to scold me for opening the shirts. She also told me that I should have asked to him measured. I was like, uh, I did but the measurements the other guy gave me were wrong. And she again told me that we customers are not allowed to open that many shirts. I said yes, I opened three and buying one and I am buttoning up the two that we aren't taking. She replied annoyed "no, leave it. It has to be done professionally." At that point I just handed her the shirts. I was not about to sit there and tell her that I had also worked retail for 10 years 2 years of those were in the mens dept at rob-may 4 of those successfully managing a womens dept at Nordstrom. I dont recall needing a PHD to fold dress shirt to be considered a professional.. My annoyance with Macy's is that they fail to train their employees correctly in customer service. If they are so worried about shirts being opened, they should maybe help a customer find a style that fits after measuring. Or pull out a shirt in the size they suggested to make sure it's right. Or educating their employees on the merchandise like "hey, this brand usually runs a bit snug so try going 1/2 size up"... Maybe providing a little bit more customer service will actually reduce the amount of go-backs. I have to say that most employees I have come across in this store are on the floor because they are obligated to after they clock in not because they are eager to sell their products or eager to provide excellent customer service. Macy's has turned into the Starbucks or CVS of dept stores... you only go there because...
Read moreShopping at this particular Macy's in Sherman Oaks, on Riverside Dr, feels like you're at a car dealership shopping for a car. The employees there must be strictly on commission and commission for specific products only. 2 weeks prior to my Sherman Oaks visit, I stepped into the Macy's in Simi Valley, Ca. I wanted the new YSL men's Fragrance Parfum. I recieved excellent service, and ended up buying the new YSL Y Le Parfum ($160+Tax) .....and the Paco Rabanne Phantom Toilette ($100+Tax)..
I was very disappointed with the strength of the YSL Y Le Parfum. It wasn't as strong as I expected. Sure, when u first spray the scent is strong, and the appearance of the spray mist on ur skin is thicker and visibly "oily".. but it did not linger as long as I expected. You're better off saving$50, .....and buying the YSL Y Eau de Parfum. Anyhow, I returned the bottle of YSL at the Sherman Oaks location. The lady who helped me was rude off the bat. When she handed me my money for the return she only included the new receipt for the return. About halfway out the door I realized that I never handed me my original receipt. When I went back to ask for it they found it in the trash and the lady had purposely sprayed alcohol on it and pretty much erased the whole thing. I wanted the receipt just in case. Keep in mind that the Paco R Phantom cologne was on the receipt also. I waited for over an hour for them to print up a new receipt meanwhile I waited I was constantly bombarded by their employees to buy a new cologne... how convinient.. one lady desperately tried to sell me the Jean Paul Gaultier. The problem was simple..i. DON'T LIKE IT.. NOT MY STYLE.. I then said "I would however, like to purchase the Coach Eau De Parfum.. she didn't help me. Obviously because she wasn't gaining anything from the sale.. By then I was fed up..I grabbed the Phantom cologne which was in my car, and returned it, then on my way home I stopped by Simi Valley Macy's .....and re-purchased the Paco R Phantom as well...
Read moreBuying a tooth brush or a Mustang Mach E by clicking a few keys has become commonplace. I haven't stepped across the threshold of an "old fashioned," retail establishment in years. So, when the wife said, "You need a new suit, I said, the suit in the closet is just fine.
As she is usually right, we visited MACY'S, a long established department store chain. *
Macy's ambience is pure enchantment. I had forgotten how much beauty is found in an old school department store.
This loveingly attended to lady comes adored with wide isles and beautiful, sparkling display cases. Seasonal decorations are elegant and creative. Her extensive selections are modern, and above all, stylish. Wherever you look, vignettes display fashion's newest and most exciting. There are multiples of everything, in many sizes and colors. In addition to fashions, there's jewelry, shoes, fragrance, linens, and small appliances, each in their own department.
Fitting is done by a tailor. The seamstress said the suit will be ready in a couple of days. Two days later, I tried it on, marching it with a white shirt and a matching tie. It fit perfectly. My wife said I looked sharp.
On the down side, salespeople are difficult to find. Prices are full retail, but last year's hot items, are often on sale at unladylike prices.
The bathrooms are large, comfortable, and wheelchair accessible. There are escalators and elevators.
Parking is free and is wheelchair accessible.
The first Macy's opened in 1858. There are over 500 locations in the US....
