It's okay and not one of the well-kept municipal golf courses. We're here because everyone else was booked at this time.
It's a great practice course since the fairways aren't in the best condition. You'll have trees that have fallen and have been left on the side of the fairway (hole 4 of the 18 hole, par 3 course). This is probably my third time here within a span of four months. All the different blue, white and red tee markers will either be there or not for each hole. They may at least have one or none at all. You'll also find trash littered and scattered around the fairways. Even practice balls that have been run over by the lawnmower. That was no surprise.
The fencing around the course isn't in the best shape so when you get to hole four of the par 3 course, you may encounter the homeless. If you're not bothered by airplanes, you'll be okay. It's right next to the Van Nuys airport so you'll see planes flying out while you're taking a stroke. If they would make the hole markers or replace the existing hole markers if you see them, that would be great. This is my third time here and also the third time watching or assisting other golfers who have gotten lost within the course because there are no clear signs or indications of where the next hole is located.
The first time here, we went from the fourth hole to the fifteen hole without even knowing so today, once we got to the tenth hole, somehow a group of three golfers and a single woman golfer ended up in front of us. It's very confusing. We weren't sure if these folks finished the Executive 18 hole and decided to get a free game in and jumped onto the back nine of the par 3 course. If they would just make things clearer, that would be great. We knew who was before us (no one because we had the first tee time) and after us so for these two individual groups and this person to just jump in was rude. We've never heard of purchasing only the front or back nine so I'm sure these people were sneaking in games while we respectfully pay for our games. That's not fair.
From reviews and photos of this course from a few years ago, I can see it has the ability to be a nice well-kept course. It was in fair and decent condition four months ago. It seems to have gotten worse. The staff here is the golden coin here and the greens. The greens were nice.
That's another thing, at every course, they should have signs that tell golfers to help the course out by fixing their divots. I can't tell you how many divots my husband and I fix because other golfers don't respect the greens. It literally takes less than five seconds to fix a divot. All in all, this municipal course is okay and has gone downhill in the last four months. The staff is what makes this course nice to visit and makes me want to come back every time. I hope they do better with the maintenance with the summer...
Read moreI’ve been coming to van nuys golf course since I was 12 I’m 28 now and recently started getting back into the game. There is rarely ever a wait time. Only $18 to play the executive course or full 18 par 3 course, Yes the whole par 3 is lacking luster in the lush green fairway department but you should only really be using irons almost exclusively for that course. As someone who has struggled hitting irons on the softest of grass the tough ground usually makes you dig in under the ball more thus getting a lot better wedge practice. In my opinion for the price you’re paying both courses are very good even the 9 hole executive Which I believe has 3 par 4’s one of them being fairly deep. With that being said if your trying to pull your driver out there you have to go to the executive course to get what you want while actually playing. If you just want to go to the driving range that’s reasonable too. Bring your own water and try to go in the morning or evening so you’re not stinging your eyes with sweat. Also both of the gentlemen that work at the pro shop are very helpful and informative. (Brian and Dominic.) Cannot beat for the price hands down. If I could change anything it would be the fact that there isn’t a single golf cart for rent so get use to wheeling your bag around in the meantime. I hope to see them add at least a few carts for rent...
Read moreIt saddens me having to post this review but I feel strongly about the current condition of my beloved Van Nuys Golf Course. I’ve been a loyal patron of this course for over 35 years and have seen this place go from bad to good and now back to dismal. My main gripe is not with the staff. I think the guys working there are doing a great job with what they have. The pros there are top notch and really provide a great service to the community. But, the condition of the course is unacceptable. I partly blame the management company and also we the golfers. The course could definitely be improved with better landscaping and renovations to the tee boxes. But, as for the greens, I point my finger at all of you weekend warriors not fixing your divots and hacking into the greens. In my last visit in August 2024, the greens looked like Swiss cheese. There’s large deep chunks of grass missing on the greens as though people are teeing off them. My request for management is to invest some time on the grounds. As for my fellow golfers do your part and help keep this course clean. Let’s take pride in our little oasis...
