Giannini Jewelers — Local services in Lower Merion Township

I bought my brother a ring to replicate a ring my grandmother gave to my father decades ago. I saved money over a long period of time to buy this ring with the thought that it could be passed down to future generations. My brother needed to adjust the ring to the right size and chose to trust Giannini with his gift.

Unfortunately, Giannini resized the ring with no regard to the sentimental engraving on the inside of the band, cutting off the full letter, “J.” Mistakes happen and relying on Giannini as professionals in the field, my brother took the ring back to simply replace the engraved “J.”

Much to my dismay and my brother’s disappointment, Giannini massacred the engraved “J,” callously butchering the engraving. Not only was it not even close to the original engraving, but it also appeared to have been inscribed by a sharp rock- not at all the quality one would expect from a purportedly reputable jeweler.

However, always giving the benefit of the doubt, I called Giannini to inquire what may have happened and how we might be able to repair the now damaged ring- again, one I saved money to buy. John answered the phone and immediately seemed to know exactly what I was talking about- perhaps an indication he was well aware of the lousy work performed. Despite my own feelings, I deferentially inquired how something like this could have happened and, more importantly, how we could resolve the issue.

Shockingly, John seemed apathetic and devoid of concern. He stated that, “engravings come in all shapes and sizes” and it was not reasonable to expect that “we would be able to match the original engraving.” After describing that, regardless of those comments, the engraving was still “was truly unacceptable and looked like it was chiseled in with a rock,” John told me that he “stands behind his work and every engraver is different.”

It became clear that John didn’t care that he ruined my brother’s gift and, of particular note, never apologized for not meeting the bare minimum quality he professed to stand behind. The photo should speak for itself and I hope this review serves as a warning for other potential customers.

P.S.- I never stated that I wanted any money back or threatened any action against Giannini. Perhaps thinking even an apology would be possible...

She got lots of compliments and so did I for doing a good job picking it out. I just had a vision of what she would like and Mr. I and Giannini took care of the rest. Mr. I walked me through the process, explained and showed to me all of the gems and settings and different qualities. He took his time, never pressured or forced anything on me, and wasn't just trying to sell or up-sell. He listened and worked with me and helped create something special and personal. He really cares and wants his customers to love what he does for them. This family business is so superior to the other jewelry businesses that I initially considered, from service to quality to price. I'm thrilled that I found them and will be going back!

My wife and I went back for wedding rings, and Giannini Jewelers took so much time to help us and make sure we got exactly what we wanted and when we wanted, including when our last minute decision led to a rush order. They got the rings to us and went above and beyond to do it! They also cleaned and fixed up my mother-in-law's bracelet that my wife wore on the wedding day. This meant a lot to us. Excellent service from start to finish when getting my girlfriend an engagement ring. I did a little research online on what to look for in a diamond (Color, Cut, Carrot, Clarity) and John could not have been more helpful at making my decision on the best one I could get. When deciding and looking over several diamonds as well as settings he was patient and did not pressure me into making a decision. What more could you ask for? If I went anywhere else I'm sure I'd be limited on choices and I'm sure the service would be horrible. The look on my girlfriends face was priceless when I presented the ring, and we are waiting to see our wedding bands that we also got at Giannini!
