I feel so lucky to have Mavey Books just around the corner. It’s one of those rare places that invites you to slow down, think deeply, and engage with ideas that matter. Their shelves are filled with books that nurture empathy, critical thinking, and curiosity — plus a fantastic children’s section that helps young readers see the world with wonder and compassion.
Lately, I’ve noticed how hard it can be for small, independent shops that simply try to spark meaningful conversations through books. It’s disheartening to see thoughtful places like this get caught up in other people’s noise. It’s also frustrating to see independent shops like this one get unfairly targeted by people more interested in outrage than understanding.    Read moreA couple of days ago, my girlfriend told me there's a new bookstore in Ardmore. The main line is sorely lacking in bookstores, particularly independent ones. Visiting became a priority for our Sunday afternoon.
Our visit did not disappoint. Despite being a small storefront, every inch is utilized well. The store does not feel cramped, even with foot traffic coming in and out. It's the right kind of bustle.
It was a pleasant surprise to see some small publishers represented, such as City Lights. After visiting San Francisco in July, the book culture here feels somewhat subpar. It's delightful to have discovered a new addition to enliven it a little bit. It seems that Mavey Books hosts many events and is becoming a community space.
