I am so glad that Gillian and this Salon was recommended to me by a friend, because I probably would have never found this place on my own. I came in for a heavy-duty color correction with all sorts of different uneven red tones and years and years of damage, unhealthy hair maintenance habits, and also years of box dye color all throughout my hair. And my goal is to go blond so I pretty much accepted that it would take multiple processes and a lot of work to get me to the desired color that I was trying to achieve. It has never been easy to get my hair to lift/lighten, but Gillian was able to pull it off somehow! I recently had another stylist from New Jersey tell me they would be unable to properly process the red out of my hair and lighten it and they somehow talked me out of going blonde and back to my standard red color again, which I really did not want to do at all. And it came out awful, so I came in to Gillian yesterday with an atrocious color on my head ( Wish i remembered to take a before picture) and her confidence and lack of intimidation made me feel so confident in letting her process my hair. I told her what my desired goal was and that I was aware it would take multiple processes to get anywhere near the blond that I was going for but she somehow managed to not only get most of the red tone out of my hair, but she actually lightened me to a blond that I never would have expected from the first time process. She worked wonders with the mess of a head that I came in to her with yesterday and I am so grateful that I ended up in her chair and not someone else's at a different salon. This is a little heartbreaking considering I really liked my stylist (as in, we were connecting and having great conversations). However, I showed him where I'd like my haircut to be at (1" trim). As he proceeded, I noticed that he was texturizing a lot of my hair. I get that he wanted to get the weight and bulk off my hair, but I wasn't sure of how much he was actually taking off. It wasn't until the very end when I noticed how much shorter my hair became. Not only that, it completely changed the shape of my hair. Basically, it was giving me an emo vibe. There were lots of layers and long pieces in the front, and short in the back, but with under layers peaking out. I didn't know what to say or how to tell him. It was already too late to stop it. His assistant came over to curl my hair, but I had to stop her midway and tell her that I wanted to straighten it instead. I'm not sure where and how it went wrong. I wish he would've consulted me before continuing to chop off all that hair. Needless to say, I'm very sad with my hair. I took a shower and tried blowdrying it, then got a flat iron to straighten it. The long pieces towards the front are cringe-worthy. I just want to cut it myself, but I'm afraid of ruining it. My hair has such an odd shape, I can't even describe it. I'm praying it'll grow fast because I have a wedding to attend in 2 weeks and I cannot go with my hair looking like this. I look dated. Also, the receptionist was trying to overcompensate by telling me she was obsessed with my hair. Whether she was lying or being generous, it doesn't matter what other people think. The customer is the one who has to be satisfied with it because it's their hair and they paid for it. So yeah, I paid $75 plus tip for this haircut that I don't like. Bummer....
