Monster's Lair Comics — Local services in Lubbock

Monster's Lair is everything I want in a comic shop! I used to go to another comic shop in Lubbock and was very dissatisfied with their customer service. So much so, that I actually got out of comics for a while because I didn't feel welcome in their shop. At the time, I was just a casual reader and it seemed like everyone there was just annoyed by my questions and kept telling me things like "just go read it" and "you can buy that comic from us if you want to know" (these were questions about comics from the 60s-70s by the way). With these kinds of frustrations, I decided to just drop it all together.

Fast forward a year. Monster's Lair opened up near my house and I went by to check it out. I have the exact opposite experience. Rob and Daniel have been awesome at helping me get back into the comic scene. They have answered all my questions and even given me great deals on collected issues they could have charged me a ton for. Not only have they done all this, they've done it in a way that shows passion for the comics and that's contagious.

You can really tell these guys LOVE comics and just want to be able to share the thing they love. That's why they have such great customer service; they legitimately love their product and want to share it. This is incredibly refreshing for someone who was burned by a comic store that seemed like they only wanted to make me feel stupid.

One quick example:

I went in one day to pick up my pulls and I ask Daniel what was going on with the big blue "REBIRTH" banners I have seen all over the shelves. He starts to explain, which leads to questions, which leads to a 30 minute conversation about the awesome stuff DC is doing. Next thing I know, I'm hooked. I love rebirth, and if the guys at Monster's Lair hadn't taken the time to walk me through it, I would have never even known about it.

This is what comics should be about: sharing a passion for the characters and their stories. These guys truly love what they do and it shows in the way they handle their customers. Side note: I've read a few reviews dogging their selection. As I've been going here for the past six months or so, this is no longer a problem. Thought we had finally discovered a good comic book store, moved from Ohio. Since discovering them right before Christmas, we have spent over $500 in their store. Started our comic book list back up pacifically asked them about coming and picking the comics up about every three months because we live about an hour and a half away. Was told that was no problem whatsoever. we did start off small. We only had three comics on our list but was planning on expanding it. We went in February to pick up our comics and in March (about a week ago) got somewhat of a dissatisfied. Email about not being there to pick a comics up in so long. We immediately emailed back apologized, wanting clarification about coming about every three months to pick them up. And then on top of that asked about just having them shipped to us monthly. We got no reply back so we made a phone call today and the lady that spoke with my husband was extremely rude, extremely disrespectful and kept interrupting and acting like we were getting a box full of comics again I cannot stress it was three comics. I have been all over the country and by far this is one of the best comic book shops I have ever had the pleasure to do business with. I have bought and sold hundreds of items with the owner and he has always offered me amazing deals on comics and extremely fair prices for my trades. Not to even mention his subscription offer. He will hold comics for you that you want to collect and he gives you a permanent discount for just signing up for free. Plus if there is an item or a comic that you want that is pricey (Spiderman 300) you put it on layaway and make payments on it till it is paid off. No mandatory payments and no charges for doing it.
