In February 2020, I was at the Lynchburg Farmers Market and saw an outdoor booth selling seafood. Since I had moved from North Carolina a few years back and had my share of it, curiosity had me wander over. I met Oliver, an engaging, educated fisherman from the NC coast who brings in wild-caught, sustainably sourced seafood. Over this past year, I have been educated on so many fish to include tile, rock, red drum, black sea bass, and speckled sea trout, to name a few. It truly has been the best seafood I have ever tasted.. However, what warms my heart is to see with all his hard work and engagement with the community, opening an indoor market one year later, February 2021! Now that he has refrigeration, check out some of his grab n go items: crab cakes, "shack snack" salad (a favorite of mine) and shrimp pasta (orzo), a new favorite! CONGRATULATIONS Oliver, Murphy, and Clare, and HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!!!

I want to support small, local businesses, but sometimes, it seems like the personal whims of the owners are more important than serving the public. We went to The Fresh Market to procure fish that night. They were staffed with knowledgeable, helpful employees. More importantly, they were open. Marsh Roots could have begun a business relationship that would potentially last for decades and add thousands of dollars to their revenue stream. Instead, they are two customers closer to being closed not only on the busiest shopping weekend of the year, but...
Read moreTwo days in a row we have received near spoiled fish. Yesterday was wahoo that tasted more fishy than any fish, fresh or frozen, that I’ve ever eaten. And I eat and cook a lot of fish. Today was halibut that stunk soooo bad we wouldn’t even cook it. While they did give us the halibut for free in exchange for the bad wahoo, it’s not worth the hassle or risk buying from this establishment. Frozen fish from a chain supermarket is better than what we’ve gotten from Marsh Roots. They need to take better care of the fish or not sell it once it’s nearing spoiling. Will...
