Thinking about having a birthday party here? DON'T.
Here's a fun story:
Had two birthday parties there this year. First kid's birthday was okay, took a long time to get the pizza I ordered, but we got the room for longer than anticipated because no one else had booked it, so not that big a deal.
Second kid's birthday party? Absolute nightmare.
They don't technically open until 1pm. We walked in a few minutes after to get into the room. I had called ahead to book the room and let them know we'd need to order lots of extra pizza because we were expecting so many people. The guy on the phone wouldn't hardly let me get that out before telling me you couldn't do that, you had to order them when you get there. So I did. And boy, was it was a problem.
The guy at the window wouldn't agree to sell me as many pizzas as I wanted to order because they hadn't anticipated needing that many.
Then, and this is the real kicker - they didn't give us all of the pizza until 10 minutes before we were supposed to leave the room. We had to ask them to even give us the first two pizzas - they'd been waiting until they were all done to bring them all out at once.
When they gave us the 15 minute warning, we told them we hadn't even gotten all of our pizzas yet, and apparently the manager told my mom, "Lady, I don't care."
When I went out to check on the other pizzas, the manager looked like he was articulating what happened to the concession workers, and it was clear he had an attitude about us not being ready to go yet.
They tried to come in and "clean up the room" while we were gathering our things - and tried to take the pizza and drinks they'd JUST brought in to us.
They weren't even nice about it. They didn't offer to help us find a table to finish up, they didn't apologize. Frankly, they were just freaking hateful about the whole thing from the start.
We literally had to open presents and finish eating on benches in the middle of the entryway.
On the way home, we found out they'd been rude to the kids at the concession stand after the whole incident, throwing the ice cream they ordered on the counter.
On top of all of this, the pizza was gross and overcooked.
The kids still had fun skating (even though the ice was rough as hell), but I can tell you this: we will NEVER go back. We should have gone to Alpine Ice Arena, and will...
Read moreMy experience at this place was absolutely terrible. The staff behind the counter were nothing but rude and the young children working the skate rental counter were terrible at their job. I gave them my shoes and they came back with skates and stood there like they didn't know who to give them to. But on to the rest of my experience at this terrible establishment, my truck was broken into at iceland in their parking lot. After contacting the police and waiting for them to show up so I could file a report I went inside and described to an older gentleman behind the counter what has occurred. I asked if they had cameras around the place, he said yes but then went on to tell me that the didn't have cameras on the parking lot, he didn't seem to care that my vehicle was broken into and didn't care to help in any way, shape, or form. Later after I filed the report with the officer I went back in to get a broom to clean up the glass from around my vehicle and the staff didn't want to help me with that either, but finally I got the broom that I needed. I went to iceland because I had heard it was a well run, well taken care of establishment unlike some of their competitors in the area. I was very displeased with the help that they didn't provide me with. I also find it strange that someone owns a business and has cameras around every corner inside the building but doesn't have a single one on the parking lot. This is overall an outrage, no signs were posted in the parking lot such as "park at own risk" or anything along those lines so I feel iceland is somewhat to blame for this whole incident as well. While they cannot control the low life's who broke into my vehicle they should have a better equipped staff as well as someone monitoring the parking lot every so often as well as cameras for instances when vehicles do get broken into. This place is a SHAM do...
Read moreI have been a regular public skater at Iceland for 4 months--since June 2015--about 5 times a week. Recently I had to check "puck & stick" hours and I ended up on the Google website showing reviews. I was completely shocked when I read several negative reviews--some of them severely so. My experiences have been 100% positive. I played organized hockey for 30 years, through college and traveling adult leagues--probably been to nearly 1000 rinks. Louisville is blessed to have this facility. Two things jump out to me:
The ice surface is incredibly good. Even when there were several +90 degree days this summer, the surface was maintained very well--no small feat. And right now (October) the surface is as hard and smooth as Lake Placid rinks in January. There were only a few days when there were some mild ruts in small areas--and that was in July when it's most difficult to maintain good ice. I really cannot comprehend the negative comments from people about Iceland's ice surface. Management should instead be truly commended.
Housekeeping: Excellent--Every time I am at Iceland, there is a cleaning service person working diligently vacuuming or tidying up. The rubber mats throughout Iceland are clean--bathrooms too are very clean. And I have noticed they keep the inside walls freshly painted, and have updated the rink interiors as well. Interestingly--I have noticed that public skating patrons (mostly children) tend to leave trails behind them. Hey!...a little help from the parents to help make the place even cleaner :-)
Anyways--for those who are wary of some of the negative Iceland reviews, ignore them and try it out. You won't be...
