My mom and I have both been skating at Champ's since we can remember. In the last year, it's gone under a lot of remodeling, and it looks very different, but in a good way. I think the old rink needed a little update. Champ's is pretty affordable too, especially if you can bring your own skates. I usually rent. However, I docked a star for two reasons: first, the more petty reason- I didn't care for the music they played at my last visit. I know not everyone likes to skate to 70s-90s hits, and I like a lot of modern music, don't get me wrong! But they kept playing random songs I'd never even heard or bad remixes of songs that would have been fine to skate to on their own. I couldn't get into the groove of a lot of their music, and I go skating to dance. The second reason I docked a star is because they stopped renting out speed skates. They now only have the heavy lead weight skates that cover up your ankles. I'm no pro, but the clunky skates they give you make it hard to actually skate. They're so heavy I can barely lift my foot off the ground, and the high tops prevent my ankles from being able to move at all. The speed skates help me move more fluidly, which is important when you have to dodge around a sea of small children. Overall I really like Champ's, and I'm glad they've breathed some new life into it, but I guess I'm gonna have to invest in my own skates if I'm gonna keep going there, because I wouldn't dream of skating...
Read moreWould give negative stars if possible. Came here recently for the 1st time. I have been skating for 47 years but was not able to use my skates so used theirs. Took me a few minutes to get used to them. At one point, they called a jam skate where only experienced skaters could dance on the floor. No one on the floor was an experienced dancer as most were just moving their shoulders back and forth. There were 3-4 young guys clutching arms who almost knocked my friend and I down. At that point, a young Black girl/guy (could not tell which) with dreads, who worked there, told me to get off the floor as it was for experienced jammers only. I was mortified, embarrassed and extremely upset. How dare he/she tell me I wasn't jamming good enough? I left the floor almost in tears. I can skate and dance just as good as anyone out there. I guess I wasn't moving my shoulders enough? When I confronted he/she at the end of the night about this was told again it was for experienced jammers. I have been skating more years than any of those people on that floor. Again, none of these people were experienced dancers. This place is lame and obviously age discriminates because I was the oldest person on the...
Read moreToday, 9/14/22, the entire post below is still true. We absolutely love everything about Champ's Rollerdrome, from the skating,, the employees, and the people we meet and make new friends with.
Not sure if I posted this months ago, but still love it at Champs very much!! 😁 My son and I absolutely love Champ's Rollerdrome and it's employees. Always have a great time 😌☺️To start, for several years now I work within a minute from Champ's, and have not started going until the pandemic began. Can kick myself for not going sooner. From day 1, my son and I always have a great time. We go most every Saturday & Sunday, and some Thursday, $3.00 skate sessions. Kids Skate Free program is great, helping me save some with all this skating. From entering, every employee is very friendly and helpful. Masks worn by all, temperature taken at door. Admission, skate rental and snacks/drinks are affordable. I've also now purchased three pairs of skates as well, also affordable. I would very much recommend Champ's to all, kids and adults. It'd been about 20 or so years since I'd last skated, and completely enjoying it now. My son and I will continue our skating schedule for as...
