Very bad experience here. I would never recommend them to ever repair or solder any jewelry. Not only did they do such an extremely poor job repairing an antique Art Deco diamond broach for me, their ability to solder a wedding band and engagement ring was so bad, I’m embarrassed to wear it. It was uneven, unaligned, and simply unprofessional.
I dropped off both items mentioned above at the same time, along with several other pieces. The two items were completed within the same order, but I still had to return to pick up some other pieces they were working on. My husband and I picked up the first part of the order, which included the ring and the broach, right before heading out of town. Once I was able to look over the pieces carefully, I immediately noticed their poor condition. I should have called them right then and complained but they still had some of our other jewelry, so we decided to wait to let them know of our concerns once the other items were completed and we would be able to talk with them face to face.
When my husband stopped by to pick up our final order a week later, I was working and unable to join him. He let the lady who assisted him know right away that we were not happy with those two items from the first order. Cortes was not in that day, but the female employee said she would certainly let him know. We waited, and heard nothing. No one ever reached out to us or made any effort to make things right. I can only guess that either the employee never told Cortes or he doesn’t care about his customers.
After waiting several months, I decided to take the pieces to another jewelry store in the area to fix Cortes’ mistakes. My thinking at the time was, if they couldn’t do right the first time, why would I trust them a second time? Experiencing what I experienced, I would never recommend them to ever repair or solder any jewelry.
(Seeing his teenage son working on the jewelry in the back should have been my first clue to turn around and leave. It truly looked like someone soldered my rings with their...
Read moreTook an expensive watch to them to replace the battery. First time the battery had been replaced. I watched in horror as he took a knife and took off the back. Then when I complained that he'd marred the finish of the enameled case lied and said it was already that way. I should have called the cops on them.
Then ignoring my protests tried to marvel at the watch I was wearing. Take only junk to them as that's what you'll get back, plus the bill.
Maybe they actually sent someone to school to learn this trade since I was there. Or maybe we now have a regularly scheduled flight to the moon. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Worse than bad tradesmen. Stands there, damages your watch in front of your eyes and then lies about it and says, "oh, it was already that way." No way would I ever use them again for anything other than a diaper removal service since they seem to be so good at shoveling that sort of stuff. Hope they go out of business before they take many...
Read moreMy aunt had her ring resized at Cortez and when she got it back, it was still twirling around on her finger,so she asked for an adjustment. The owner, who didn't remember the ring or my aunt, asked when she brought it in. She told him she brought it in two weeks earlier. Instead of helping, he was quite rude and the lady there just gave her two plastic little ring adjusters and offfered others, but they aren'tvery helpful. So, my aunt left with a ring that is still too large, a bill she should not have paid, and an unpleasant experience. She is quite unsatisfied and now has to find someone else to adjust the size...
