I was looking for a new gun, so I took one of mine in to make a trade. I talked to Steve and he asked what I was looking to get for mine, and I told him. It was 300 less than what I paid for it less than a year ago, plus I had added a scope to it. I wasn't asking a new price for it. He looked up my guns value then asked what gun I was looking to trade for. He explained that he had some ordered but didn't know when they would be in. I said that was fine I wasn't in a hurry. I called back in a couple of weeks and was told it had not came in yet to keep checking back that he still had my name down. I was never told anything had changed. A couple weeks later I got a call saying the gun had come in. 2 days later when I went to pick it up and make the swap they didn't know what I was talking about. This time I was talking to Allen. I explained that I had talked to Steve, so he went and asked him, and he said he didn't agree on a price that we could negotiate. I said that's fine and Allen looked up my gun again. He said they had gotten in 2 of the kinds of guns that I was trading in, and that they didn't want mine anymore. He said he would just insult me if he made me an offer. That I could just purchase the gun outright. The original price they quoted me for my trade was about the same as the gun that I was wanting, I guess they figured they weren't making enough money off of me, so they changed their minds. I wouldn't have had a problem if they had said from the start they didn't want to do it, but for me to keep calling and them not tell me anything had changed is just bad business. I guess they thought I would just wind up buying it instead of wanting to trade. I had heard for alot that I would be better off going to another dealer in town, but I figured I would give them a chance....

I try to buy local when I can. So I went to Steve's looking for a new gun that they ended up not having on the shelf. They looked up the price and offered to order it for me but I knew of a better deal available at Academy. I told them no thank you and added that there was a better price somewhere else. Then they told me that they will match any advertised price on a new gun. I showed them the deal from my phone and they said they could match it. They ordered it for me and I went ahead and paid up. The next day my gun was there. Awesome experience.
While I was picking up my new gun I looked around at some of their used guns. I found one I wanted to purchase and it had an average, but not great, tag price for a used gun like this. I asked them what they could do on the price but they wouldn't budge any. I can't blame them for that but they can't expect me to pay more than I have to either. Oh well. If it's still in there the next time I go to Steve's I'll try again. And I will be going back. It's a great store with super...
Read moreI drove 3 and 1/2 hours from my work site to check this place out. I live 800 mi away and they made coming down and buying a newly released rifle easy.
New gun prices are about standard, not great and not bad. Used pricing feels a little high, but if you wanted that $175 mosin you should have bought it back in 1992. I want to deal as much as the next person, but the staff I talked to were all very nice, and I watched a staff member work with a kid buying a BB gun just the same as when I bought a $1,200 rifle.
In addition to the great service they had a selection of all kinds of cool new guns, and old guns I've never seen in person. Ruger 44 carbine, a nylon 66, a calico 22LR pistol, all kinds of cool stuff. If I move down here permanently I'll make the 3 and 1/2 hour drive at least four times a year.
Lots of other archery and fishing and general interests sporting goods packed into what looks like a small space from the outside. Very cool store that is worth stopping in if you're...
