Big Sky — Local services in Manchester

As of 6/1/25, I’m a year in on the membership. I will not be resigning my membership. Big Sky is a high school hang out. Annoying clientele that does not have good gym etiquette, no reracking their weights, taking 4 or 5 sets of dumbbells at one time, leaving them scattered, putting their bag down on a piece of equipment to “claim” it while going to talk to friends for 10 minutes.

Depending on the day, the staff will either choose to acknowledge you or ignore you. Many pieces of equipment upstairs sticks, rendering them useless. The older smith machine downstairs sticks. The cable machine upstairs, one side sticks. Grease up the shafts, it’s not hard. Parts of the building are falling apart. Pieces of the wall are broken. Not a clean gym. Dust bunnies and dirt all around. I took pictures of all of these concerns.

Not that good of a selection of equipment. Very little for legs. Foolish investment upgrades while ignoring simple fixes to make a better gym. There were 4 power cages that were perfectly fine. Big Sky decided to replace them with…4 power cages. Lateral move. Replaced 3 treadmills with…3 treadmills. One which broke within a week. However, two solid additions of a new pec dec and another smith machine. Yet, still only one seated cable row. Take that movement out of your back routine as it’s always hogged. You won’t get a chance to use it. Also what, 5 hip thrust machines? C’mon, that’s ridiculous. How about two hip thrust machines, and invest the rest of the money in a good hack squat machine. That’s a staple for legs.

Glad my contract is up. You get what you pay for in a $10-15 dollar a month gym. Time to step it up, pay a little more, and sign up...

I did have great experiences at the gym, w/trainers, and in the classes (shout out staff ❤️). However, I wish they didn't stand by predatory billing. I don’t agree with making it a purposefully difficult process to cancel your membership (feels like an icky retention strategy). I had not initially planned on canceling, but had such a bad experience with their third party billing company that I am very unlikely to return.

I did directly call to share my negative experience, and thought maybe due to the nature of the situation (and length of consistent membership) there would be more care/possible resolutions offered, but no action was taken by Big Sky. I am pretty disappointed in the overall end of my membership there being such a negative. The lack of consideration felt is why I'm going to shift from highly recommending Big Sky, to warning people about my experience, and suggesting other gyms.

I finally received a email from a manager (heavily assisted by ai) when I responded/shared my concerns (on the 26th of last month) I got nothing back, and I’m still getting collection attempts from the billing company. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing.

10/22 update - still zero concern or care from Big Sky, now their third party billing company sent me an email claiming I owe them 108.20 - even though initially they were refusing to cancel because they claim I “missed the window” by two days, and said I owed another month, even after multiple in person attempts to cancel within their time frame.

Please give your energy and support to another gym that shows a higher level of care for its members, and that doesn’t stand by morally bankrupt...

After months of run around with this gym, I am resorting to letting everyone know about my disgraceful experience. From the start I did not enjoy the club. The club as a whole is outdated, their pool area was under construction and continued to be throughout the duration of my time here... I signed up for this club for the child care and paid $10 extra a month for the child care only to find that there were at least 15 kids to the two adults watching the kids who did not even appear to be professionals but rather maybe other moms that regulared the gym? Not even sure but one of their kids pushed my toddler off of the blocks they have to climb on and absolutely nothing was done... So that was the only time for the 12 months @$10 a month that I brought my child to the facility, which then made it more difficult for me to attend. Upon sign up I was told I could bring a guest, any guest, same guest, whatever it may be as often as I wanted.... And then in emails they retracted this to 1 guest 1 time per month. After they reopened from the COVID shut down they were on you about masks and cleaning equipment (As it should be) HOWEVER they did not have hand sanitizer out and about for their members to clean their hands between equipment. Now, 2 months past my contract I continue to be fraudulently charged. I suppose closing my bank account will have to be my last resort and I will just have to take the loss of all the wasted money this disgusting business stole from me. I cannot tell you enough, DO...
