I've been a BIG fan of Home Depot for years. I love the quality of the merchandise and their commitment to Veterans.
I'm at Home Depot A LOT. Probably not as much as the contractor customers, but definitely more than most. I've always been very happy with my experience there; UNTIL TODAY...
On two occasions, when I have had a large order ($400-$500), that I made at the Customer Service desk, an employee offered free delivery (which I gladly accepted, and found to be excellent). This afternoon, however, when I went to the Customer Service desk to inquire about delivery of 45 sheets of drywall, the representative said that delivery is $79.00. I inquired about what the minimum purchase must be to qualify for free delivery and the gentleman stated "No. I don't deliver anything for free." I said okay, but was just wondering about free delivery, as I had gotten it on two previous occasions from this store. His response was "Nope. Not from here. How much drywall?" I told him that I would need 40-45 sheets. He looked at me as if I was foolish for asking, said "Nope." and walked away from me.
I didn't walk in this man's shoes today and it's not up to me to judge him; maybe he had a bad day or has some challenges in his life that are weighing him down. BUT, I was INSULTED by him challenging my integrity by insinuating that I hadn't had free delivery from that store before. From my stance, he basically called me a liar and disengaged.
I truly hope that this man is doing well and is able to work unburdened by the rigors of life. For me, I won't let this one bad encounter change my overall appreciation of the store.
Thanks for reading this far, enjoy your visit...
Read moreFantastic service! Web features are awesome. Online orders usually faster than fast food lines!
I have had several times that I place an order online for pick up, then start driving directly to the store. I usually get a text message that my order is ready before I even get across town to the store. Most orders are ready in about 30 minutes or less~! I'm sure not all the time - but that has been my experience at least a dozen times.
For example: If I need a part for my lawn mower I look it up on their site while I'm home so that I can double check my mower information and then I know if it is in stock. Once I have it found on the website I just place an order for pickup. Then the employees, who know their way around the store way better than I do, find it and bring it up front. When I get to the store I get to just do the fun parts of shopping like checking out the garden center, or looking at window coverings etc. Those items I want to see for myself in person I enjoy browsing, but the employees save me so much walking around and searching for specific parts I need by just placing that part online. When I'm ready to check out I swing by customer service and pick up my order and I'm done way faster than if I had to search the store for parts.
They have genuinely used their web services to improve the shopping experience and add value for me and save my time. Impressive.
I love it. I absolutely wish more retail stores had this...
Read moreGift card purchased online two hours before closing, advertised as practically instantaneous, was still being processed and while standing up at the Customer Service desk for twenty minutes while the clerk gal tried her best with the 3 gift card confirmation emails which contained the order number, but nothing useful to actually use the gift card. Last 4 of card used to purchase? Sure. But no sign of the relevant and necessary information despite receiving an email with the all caps heading "YOUR GIFT CARD INFORMATION", followed by no actual gift card information. I feel like I got April Fool's pranked in July. Went home empty handed tonight so I guess I'm done working early is what I'll take out of this ridiculousness. The clerk gal was as helpful as she could be. Her grumpy leprechaun of a shift lead/manager exemplified impressive skill at cramming a whole bunch of condescendion wrapped in ignorance into the 2 minutes he was involved from 8:59 to 9:01 when I walked out with nothing but a not super confident suggestion that gift cards might take 24 hours to process as an explanation, which is a good guess, but not at all what the Homedepot.com gift card page suggested.
See the email it option says "instantly" well, instantly might actually take 24 hours, but don't worry the manager will try to make you think...
