Let me begin by saying, I am not one to bash a hospital for the service. One thing I can say about this hospital in particular, it was awful in every way. I literally met ONE person who was nice throughtout the whole ordeal that brought me to this hospital. My husband is a truck driver who gets the pleasure of traveling.Ā Monday night he arrived at a hotel in Martinsville VA and noticed his abdomen was cramping really bad. He went to bed thinking that the pain would just work itself out. However Tuesday around 1:30 AM, I received a call that he was going to go to the closest ER because his symptoms all matched appendicitis. Thankfully I was only 2 hours away. He had sit me a screenshot of the google reviews on this hospital and I jokingly said, it cannot be that bad. I WAS SO WRONG. We received the worst service from the ER all the way until we left. I wish more than anything at this point that we would have known from the beginning what the pain was so we could have got him back to Wilkes County, NC. People here might make jokes on our hospital being bad but I have never received service as horrible as what we received at Sovah Regional Medical Center. When I arrived at 8:30 - 9 AM my husband was sitting in a basically empty ER (I know this because I got lost and found a completely empty section). When I walked in he told me that he hadnāt seen anyone in HOURS, he was honestly thinking that they had pulled the curtain and forgot him. We sat there for a bit and I could see out past the curtain a bit, figured out why no one had visited his room because they were all gathered around a computer on social media and just laughing and cutting up. Finally 2 nurses came into the room (2 b.c one was training) and explained they were going to take him to the OR. They even seemed shocked that my husband was just sitting there without a blanket or anything. After surgery they took my husband to a room, from that time on I literally seen one doctor (who couldnāt speak English) in the time I was there. If you wanted a nurse or even a CNA, wasnāt happening in a timely manner. Twice we hit the call button only for them to turn it off, wait 5-8 minutes THEN make their way into the room. My sister is a nurse at our local hospital and just telling her of the horrible service we received, she was shocked. She spent the whole month of January 2019 in Brenners Children in Winston Salem NC with her son. When I visited them there I was always blown out of the water by how caring the nurses and doctors were. We didnāt expect a lot, honestly my husband and I are quiet people who never once would have made their job any harder than it had or needed to be. However, being in the healthcare industry shouldnāt just be a JOB, itās a calling. The people that I encountered at Sovah Regional Medical facility were lacking that. Iām sure some people there wanted to be there and loved their job but sadly I didnāt encounter those people. I wish I had a different story to tell. Weeks later Iām working with Aflac to file a claim for this and Sovah is telling AFLAC they can submit their request but it will take up to 15 days. Fine, I get that. The AFLAC representative Iām dealing with reached out to Sovah to get an update, you know 8 days into that 15 day wait time. AFLAC says that no one will return their call about this request. In the end, I know this review will mean nothing to most people but if you have an option to go to a different hospital, do so. When you have to be in the hospital the last thing you want to be worried about is the service you receive. Everyone knows health care is expensive, I get that but again I expect WAY more than what we received. Again being in the healthcare industry is NOT just a job. Sadly, the people we encountered there view it as a job,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was at Martinsvilles ER yesterday (Tuesday March 5th, 2024) fpr Chest pains and was released . After an EKG and 3 blood test to check enzyme levels they decided this was acud reflux related. Early the next morning the pain persisted so I decided maybe I need to go be seen again. This was approximately 3 A.M. Wednesday morning. ( March 6th 2024). There was one other person in the waiting room as I signed in...I told the gentleman that signs you in I was there earlier and was still having chest pains and informed him I'd had 1 heart attack before some years back...He signed me in and told me have a seat they'd be right with me....Possibly a minute and a half later the triage nurse (a male) came to the door and called my name....My 15 year old daughter was with me and stood up with me to go back....He stated she couldn't come back. I was shocked. I informed him that that was my daughter...He asked "How old is she?" I told him she was 15 and he looks at me with a smirk and tells me "That's policy". Where in the free world does a hospital not allow your unaccompanied juvenile female daughter to come back with a parent while their parent is having chest pains of all things. That is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard in my whole life. At that point I had no other option and saw I was basically being turned away because my child was with me. Was I mad?. Yes beyond mad. Yes I did have a few choice words for the gentleman. But during chest pains I dont believe thats the time for that type of nonsense. After I said what I had to say the triage nurse said "Well, I was gonna let her come back till you had an attitude." I guess he considered it an attitude because I was having chest pains n was shocked n told him "That's my daughter." I doubt very seriously that any of this hospitals administration would leave their 15 year old daughter in a waiting room at 3 A.M. unaccompanied by a parent (legal guardian) I hope SOVAH Health sees this review and handles the situation with the triage nurse who was on duty last night. This is the most unprofessional and inconsiderate act I believe I have ever seen out of "supposed" HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS. My network in Martinsville and Henry Co. Is pretty vast and I will be spreading the word about my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for help with recurring MDD, was gave a CT scan and a chest x-ray not sure why. My sister called them before and was told to go through the ER. Never was gave any explanation but was told they were discharging me. The doctor didn't really know why because she had just came on shift and was only going by the last doctor who never explained anything to me. I did explain some of the details to her and she seemed confused but didn't act on it. Like to have never got my belongings, removed my IV myself as it seemed to me they had very little help. So I guess I will have this big bill for nothing. One nurse had the worst attitude. I ask who the administrator / CEO was and no one could tell me, they said they didn't know. His name is Spencer Thomas. I moved back here to retire this is the worst health care this area has ever had. I can see why people go to other areas. All the US talks about is getting people to reach out for help, but when you do it's not there, there's more I could say but if you can go to another hospital and don't risk the poor care you get with them. Follow-up after the investigation
Response to follow-up, as you can see, the same response was given. A very nice lady came to talke to when I was admitted 2 day latter. I questioned the CT Scan and why it was done. Pretty much I could tell by the look on her face she seemed to be irritated me continue question. One of response was that's what you sister said but still have answers to why the test. When I ask for the results I was told I would have do a writing request for them, She also said my doctor could request them to just let my doctor know. As I told he I could tell the investigation she had done was believing the staff and that's how I felt they did investigation. So it was hopeless. At this point I will follow-up with my stay the last few day and we all should let our stentors, us congress as well as the government and any other agencies that over see them.
