April 2021 (been meaning to do this since then) - Reason for going down to 1 star is I have confirmed that they used cheaper non-SUBROSA parts when they built my sons 2nd Subrosa that I bought from them. They accused us of using a hack saw to cut my sons handle bars (that snapped at the weld). No regard for his safety at all. I can't believe how far this place has fallen and 3 bikes later, regret ever stepping foot in there. If you find yourself having to fix a fairly new bike, please check to see if they are what you paid for. They are scammers, and when I finally figured it out they told me to bring my business elsewhere. đŽ GLADLY.
9/19/20: Once again Reed and his team (especially Ed: Subrosa Expert) - true to their word, they do the maintenance on my son's bike, (which he is very rough on) whenever we come in. However, today they went above and beyond. My son did some damage to his bike and we brought it to be fixed, & a repair that should have taken days, they stayed late and fixed right away, after my son told them he was looking forward to using his bike this weekend. Same day service!!! What other bike shop does that?
March 2019: Great experience, knowledgeable of course. Gave us a great price (same as online), but changed the tires and threw in the pegs for nothing. Owner Reed, was great, told my son to stop in anytime he needs an adjustment. Couldn't be...
Read moreI called ahead and told them my mountain bike had a flat and asked if they had 26x2.00 tubes. They said they did so I stopped by and they sold me two 26x1.5-1.75 tubes he promised that they would work for this size tire and that they where thorn resistant. So I said okay and bought them they even helped me throw the first one on. I get out on the trail and after a mile the tire pops right by the valve stem I call them back and head back and show them they said it must be the rim and they donât have the time to look at it. So I throw the second on and same thing happens. At this point I am livid and they are closed. So I go to Walmart and buy an actual 26x2.00 tube and put it in and I have no problems. So theyâre either incompetent selling the wrong size tubes or theyâre selling defective parts. Either way stay away and find a better show I usually go to Brielle Bicycle or Middletown trek and never had a problem with them they can actually change a tube...
Read moreI was in the market for my first bike as an adult. I called 5 bike shops, the market could be pretty intimidating as bikes can cost between $400 to $10,000. I met with Reed, Owner of Matawan Bike Shop. He gave me his phone number and educated me on the differences in bikes, sizing, the reasons for the pricing, etc. I was working relatively late and Reed actually worked with me outside of the shop hours, built me a bike right out the box, offered the shop service warranty for a reasonable cost, added accessories as requested and made sure I was happy with my purchase before sending me on my way ensuring I can contact him and shop any time if I had any questions or concerns in the future. This is the old school shop vibe we are all looking for. I WOULD recommend Reed and his team to ANYONE looking for a bike. He's not a salesman, he is truly interested in the customers best interest. THANK YOU MATAWAN BIKE SHOP. If I can give 6...
