Went to the ER due to progressively having trouble breathing and swallowing over the last few days. At first I was in a room with nurse call bell. Then was moved into a room that they said was quiter but was actually noisier. In this room, I had no nurse call bell, it was 5am so as I was trying to sleep I must have unknowingly knocked over my water bottle and purse to the floor. The nurse came and went from my room and left my things on the floor. I asked for pain medication, it did not come. I asked to speak to a respiratory therapist when the doctor was saying she was sending me home, she said there was no need so she wouldnt. She said I was speaking fine, even though I was forcing air out of my throat to breathe and I told her that was what I was experiencing. She told me if things get worse or I feel like I cant breathe at home, then come back to the ER. I asked, what would happen differently, because not being able to breathe at home was why I was there today. She said we would do the same evaluation but not run the tests. She then walked away and said I could speak with the nurse. The nurse came, put a bandaid on my IV site, then left, leaving my things still on the floor. Edit: an update 2 days later from this visit. I went to an urgent care for my worsening symptoms. Within 5 minutes they did a COVID test, said I was positive, then gave me a prescription for a short term inhaler. That's all I needed

All they do is transfer you. I begged for an advocate to help me. I was on phone for 3 hours … transfer, transfer, transfer was all they would do, and no one helped me. I begged more for an advocate. Nope. I called the main number and asked to file a complaint. I asked G* to file my complaint and ask, “Does anyone there care? Why was I transferred for 3 hours?” Those are not rhetorical questions. I want the Board to know my questions and that I begged for help and kept being transferred. I’d love to say caring, wonderful, nurses are great, good ER, goes out of their way, professional, helpful, great facility. But, nope. Zero stars.

I wish I could give Maui memorial zero stars! May 5 of 2021 I had been contacted and told I had direct exposure to Covid! it was a Saturday. I contacted Minit medical and then Doctors On Call to find a Covid test. I called Minit medical they had no appointments available drove to doctors on call and they were close. So I drove to Memorial emergency room. When I arrived there was a nurse that was standing in the triage tent that had been set out front of the ER she was alone there was no one else there not one patient. I explain to her that I had direct exposure to Covid and then I tried other locations to get a test but failed but wanted to find out immediately if I had Covid because I was a hairdresser and I possibly could’ve exposed many clients. I was trying to do what is right for myself in the community! This nurse was very rude she acted angry with me that I had come for a Covid test even after I explain to the situation about direct exposure and was protect the community and possibly I could’ve exposed other people which I would’ve had to notify she had no empathy no sympathy! she basically told me that she was gonna make me pay for wasting the ERs time???!?! even though she was standing there doing nothing and there was not one patient! Cut to six months later I receive a bill for $1700 for a five minute Covid test from maui health/Maui Memorial!!! It is absolutely disgusting and robbery that this hospital is trying to charge me $1700 for trying to protect myself in the community! when I was doing what was right the nurse was evil . I know she wrote something in the chart to make this happen! She was vindictive and cruel!! I have tried to work this out with maui health for over six months! now they have now sent me a letter stating that the charges are accurate and that they spoke with an ER Doctor Who consulted my chart! The fact that it is OK for them to charge me $1700 for a five minute Covid test, for trying to protect the community is absolutely disgusting! I have tried the patient relations coordinator Gigi I have been trying to work it out with maui health with five different people. I cannot believe how Disgusting this hospital is and how they treat their patients! They are criminals for trying to charge me $1700 for a five minute Covid test! It is awful that Maui memorial is the only hospital on Maui! We need more hospitals on Maui! Maui Memorial/maui health is awful! They do not care about the patients they only care...

Please inform your doctor's and nurses in the ER that the way they treat their patients is literally life and death. They ask me every time I come there if I'm suicidal. I always say no, but by the time I leave that usually changes.

When I can hear the doctor talking about me to other staff and I see the lies they have written in my chart....wow. I was so surprised because I'm always so respectful. I am always calm and collected.

Once, when a doctor was actually doing their job correctly, I heard a nurse begging the doctor not to run any test on me. He listened to her and ended up sending me home with no testing or treatment. Why would a nurse ever do that?

What about the time when my primary told me to go straight to the ER from his office because he suspected blood clots. The ER Doctor put me in a camera room and chose to use blood tests from over a month prior that they found in my chart. She told me that I couldn't possibly have any blood clots. She sent me home and didn't run a single test on me regardless of visible abnormal swelling of both arms and the fact that my doctor requested I be there. Also, I have a history of having blood clots previously.

If I tell the doctor I can't breathe well or that it hurts when I breathe, they don't believe me. The list goes on and on.

I am terrified to come there. I stopped coming for a very long time, suffering at home regardless of how bad I felt and this is why. I do my best to be respectful and thankful to all the staff there and hardly ever do I get treated with the same respect.

Your staff are not just doing damage to me when I come there but they are making sure that anyone who sees me later on will disregard what I'm going through. This is dangerous to patients. People die over these type of things.

I encourage anyone that goes there to keep track of their medical records, ask for a patient advocate when necessary, and be vigilant if your health is in dire condition. So many people with chronic health issues have told me that they don't come to the ER just like me.

I apologize to the ER staff that are great at their jobs. You don't get enough praise and I apologize for that. You all are very appreciated and very...

At times the hospital is good or bad depending on the nurse/aids on shift. Younger nurses & aids are WAY BETTER than the old lady’s working. Need more younger nurses because old heads are very lazy & could care less. Young nurses have been very helpful & make you feel a lot more comfortable. They give proper care for concerns & are quicker. Fire the old heads or have them work a computer instead of caring for patients. I understand they are old & working doubles or what but if they can’t give the proper care to do job then don’t do it. Old nurses unorganized & very lazy. Old ladies better off working at a retirement center. No communication between other nurses concerning meds & schedule needing attention for my father’s pain, old lady even forgot to take vitals & blood pressure! Janitor lady didn’t take out the trash after 4 days, tho it stink she just stacked the garbage as high as she could & threw old bowel pads in the trash can without no trash bag, gloves & all! When I came in next day she didn’t bother taking it out just threw a trash bag over it! Lazy lady. Very unsanitary & disgusting she needs too do her job or just quit. Other old nurse didn’t know what to give or what prior nurse had planned for medication. Unorganized. Old lady was talking about nurses being lazy but she must have been talking about herself. We have been polite & patient with grace but you can tell when someone takes initiative in job or just there too get paid. Doctors & PT have been awesome in the process too recovery, surgeons, & young nurses have been great because they actually care. MMMC needs too root out the bad seeds & hire better nurses/aids. Look at all the reviews. All they do is copy & paste the same feedback response like they don’t give a crap. Record everything they do & take tabs maybe start a lawsuit against them if you feel you aren’t getting properly cared for or refer to a second opinion else where because the hospital overall needs...
