Conartist ,unfair, dishonest are just a few of the nicest words I can think of. I wish I had looked as reviews before I ever went there. All of the negative reviews of hit him spot on. I'm from the country is where a crook can't keep a business door open for more than a week. If it wasn't for a high population density he wouldn't be able to keep his store afloat. I took him $380 melt price in silver quarters. He acted as if he was doing me a favor and offered me $150 we're asked if he could do any better he would have to resell them and was trying to make a dollar as well which is perfectly understandable. The next day I had a few more coins that I had laying around and he said he was giving me the same price that he had given me the day before , she gave me $15 for 11 silver quarters. In all honesty I am an idiot for not thinking through the deal he was giving me, but being raised in a small country town, I naturally assumed he was a fair businessman giving him the benefit of a doubt, if you do the math on the deal above, he first took advantage of me by giving me an extremely unfair price on my coin and then the next day the man said that he was going to give me the same rate that he had before what's the weather like I he had given me even half of that, 11 silver quarters should have been approximately worth $40. With him getting a 30 percent profit margin he should have given me 25 - $30. He only gave me 25% of my coins value and act like he did me a favor. Those coins were given to my three-year-old daughter from her recently deceased great grandfather and we're going towards a playground for her I assume I will just put in more time and work a little harder to make up for my poor judgment. I guess I can thank him for teaching me a very valuable...
Read moreI love this place! Not long after I moved back to St Louis I took a beloved "art clock" to South County Coin & Jewelry to be repaired because it had been damaged in the move. I also took in a few other items that needed resizing, or a repair, or a watch battery, etc. I quickly learned that Dave Jalil and Kelly Scott, the proprietors, are incredibly knowledgeable about all different eras of jewelry, as well as, extremely knowledgeable about gemstones, and while they obviously have a tremendous appreciation for the antique there are some absolutely stunning contemporary pieces available for sale there! But I digress, LOL! My beloved clock was repaired and four years later it's still running, and everything else I had asked Dave to do that time was done beautifully and expertly. Since then we have done business in various forms, I have sold him gold, he has sold me some fabulous jewelry, and he has done a number of repairs or modifications for me. A visit to the store just to look around is absolutely worth your time! The space seems small at first, but don't be fooled, look closely because there are treasures everywhere! And definitely do NOT skip the charming, old-fashioned electric revolving display cases because there are some amazing treasures hidden in them! In one spin, of just one revolving case, I found (and purchased) an amazing antique citrine ring (don't know if it's an official "antique" but it's old.) An antique lavalier with a spectacular solitaire diamond, and lastly I snapped up a gorgeous heavy silver & garnet ring that was so inexpensive it would have been ridiculous not to buy it even if it had not been so cool! I couldn't afford to pay for it all that day but then I learned they offer layaway! Did I mention I love this...
Read moreYes, a very rude place to do business. I had a tube of pure silver Canadian maples to sell for spot, and initially he said yes, he would buy them, then I made an offhand remark about how cash would be better because his bank charges me $7 to cash his check, and then he and the lady there (wife??) ended up getting all pissed and they threw me out, going back on the deal made 2 minutes earlier. I'll never stop in there again. [edit a year later, after owner reply]... no, he did not offer to give me another seven dollars to cover the bank fee, and I bank at the same bank anyway. I made a comment about the seven dollar fee, which I have experienced myself live before, so is quite a real thing, and at that point the woman said something to him that I couldnât hear, and then he tells me to get out. Again reneging on the deal and he just made with me two minutes earlier. I donât know how much clearer I can say that. And no rebuttals of the âother side of the storyâ can change those facts. [ANOTHER edit, since the owner came back and tried to portray me as either an idiot or a liar, then asked, "So, what's up?". Here's what's up. I DID NOT KNOW that we bank at the same bank BEFORE you would hand me a check, and you never gave me a check because you reneged on the transaction! All I did was comment that, IN GENERAL, I was preferring not to pay that charge, as I had several times at other places that gave me checks. I don't know how much more clearly I can cover this topic, so I'm not going to return and debate this any further. Caveat...
