This year, my husband was not up to doing more than buying dinner, although I thoroughly enjoy the music and the dancing. So rather than go in, we used the drive-through option. The entrance for the drive-through was just south of Sam Cooper Blvd., and the officers directing traffic were pleasant and helpful. The Festival had people taking orders on tablet, and the menu, while not as extensive as what is offered if you parked and went into the church or under the awning, was well worth the wait; it took approximately 30 minutes.
Sadly, they had underestimated the appeal of their pastries and baklava, because those had sold out (from inside and the drive-through) about halfway through Saturday, before we arrived. However, we both enjoyed our meals (the vegetarian meal and the pork meal). They have such good spanikopita and the marinated pork was delicious!
There was no charge for going through the drive-through, and the charge for going in to the festival is more than reasonable, especially these days; this year it was $3 per person, or one dollar off for each canned good you bring--free entry for 3 cans per person, which my husband and I usually do. I am impatiently anticipating next year's festival and hope to see many people...
Read moreThe Memphis Greek Fest was an adventure with this kind of like being our third time coming.. we enjoy every year, the shuttle bus picked us up at the Poplar Plaza (plenty of parking). 3 can goods for the Memphis Food Bank got us all in for free. (Bonus) The priest of the church welcomes your family and is very, very nice and kind. All of members are welcoming. My grandkids go there for extra credit for their school so they talk about the Greek festival, the city of origin... so it was a great adventure to receive extra credit and also go to have a fun time at this event. Also, the music was pleasing and people was dancing. An abundance of food was available... plenty of seating outside under the tent or inside where the food was. All of the dinners and desserts were very exclusive of Greece. There was several vendors on the property, selling jewelry, concessions and pottery. Even though it was raining this day, everybody showed up and had fun! We will return next year extra...
Read moreI forgot to take a picture of my food because I took one bite it was gone before I knew. I must said this is my third Greek festival from two different state (AL and FL) and this one in Memphis has the best green bean(the best), the lamb chop was tender and full of favor, the souvlakia - Greek marinated pork tenderloin was good and tasty, the spanakopita was bigger then I ever had and good, first time seem variety cookie pack so I was able to try them all and went back the next day to buy what I like( Ergolavi, Koulouria and paximathia) not a big fan of baklava ( I never had been since the golden girls days) but my family enjoyed them.
The admission cost was very affordable, everybody (entry, pick up line, cookie table, and inside food line) was very nice and speaking(+++++), plenty of space to sit down, kid area, music was great and I really enjoyed the vendor with jewelry.
I will see you next year if my schedule allows it...
