Let’s be clear. I am a man who requires a certain standard. When I enter a commercial space, I expect a reflection of my own exacting tastes: cool neutrality, impeccable cleanliness, an atmosphere of quiet efficiency. My own apartment, with its stereo system, its original David Onica, and its impeccable sightlines, is a testament to this principle.

Zen Leaf in Meriden, I must admit, initially understood the assignment. The facade is unassuming, but the interior… the interior is commendably minimal. Sterile, even. The blonde wood and brushed steel fixtures are acceptably austere. The lighting is a flat, shadowless white, not unlike a modern art gallery or a very clean operating room. It’s a space that doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: a dispensary. Not a head shop, not some grimy bodega. This is important.

The service was equally precise. The “budtender,” a young woman named Jessica, had the clean, manicured hands of a surgeon and the dispassionate demeanor of a Swiss banker. She recited the THC percentages and terpene profiles with a clinical detachment I found deeply reassuring. There were no garish colors, no stoned giggles, no unpleasant odors. It was a transaction, pure and simple. I selected a vaporizer cartridge from a brand called “Aero.” The packaging was satisfyingly minimalist; a matte black cylinder that felt weighty and significant in my palm.

The product itself is… effective. It provides a clear-headed, functional euphoria that allows me to fully appreciate the tonal complexities of Genesis while simultaneously reviewing quarterly reports. It is a tool for enhanced performance, much like my morning facial mask.

But here is where the entire meticulously constructed facade cracks. The cost. The sheer, unadulterated avarice. The Aero cartridge, a one gram of distilled oil, cost me one-hundred dollars. One hundred dollars.

Last week, returning from a private equity meeting in Boston, I stopped at a dispensary in Springfield, Massachusetts. A comparable product—superior, in fact, with a more robust terpene profile—was twenty five dollars. twenty-five.

This isn't commerce. This is predation. It’s a violation of the very principles of market efficiency. The difference is so staggering, so blatant, it feels like a personal insult. It’s the fiscal equivalent of someone wearing a far superior suit than your own, but for half the price. It’s vulgar.

I sit here now, at my granite breakfast bar, the high slowly receding. The experience was smooth, the ambiance was correct, the service was faultless. But all I can think about is the seventy five dollar discrepancy. It’s an inefficiency that grates against my very soul. Using this product feels good, but knowing what I paid for it feels… chaotic. Revised April 2025..it's truly sad what is happening to cannabis in CT. It's so bad .and idk what the problem is when your sold weed that smells like a damp towel that is legitimately wet not once but twice from ZenLeaf from Affnity Grow and can taste the mold in the weed .. and yet others have these same strains from other dispos and love them.. that tells me Affnity is throwing multiple batches out there under the same batch numbers ... Of course Affnity doesn't respond any longer respondes to complaints and Meriden ZenLeaf just does looks at you stupid and offers you a 10 percent discount..I mean this weed smells of mold .. DO not buy anything from ZenLeaf . Or any of these dispos really. It's a shame that we have to have all this nasty radiated and disgusting moldy flavorless smell less weed. And can't do shit when it's legit a waste of money across all brands ..if it's not dry it's wet if it's not radiated it has zero flavor or aroma . If it's not nasty it's old.. re sold a year later with new batch numbers .. just go to mass. I'm moving there so I can get the medicine I need . Sad I have to but CT has failed time and time again..

omething’s who judge their customers , talk shit about their customers and joke about their customers .. they are NOT knowledgeable, they will sell you garbage knowing it’s garbage just to make a quick dollar for ZenLeaf, this dispensary here is god awful at bringing new items to shelves , they constantly lack in every area , the program has turned to true garbage in the last year and I pretty much try not to go to this dispensary anymore because the staff is so rude !! For example the other day I went in , the manager bombards me with questions like “do you need to know anything about this flower “ I replied “ well is it good?” Snarkly he responded “ what do you mean “ so I said “ quality with CTpharma has gone way down hill “ and he looked at me like I had three heads and said “ well good luck “ and walked away and started to talk shit under his breath to his co workers . This is dead wrong ! The staff that’s been there a while are good people , but this ever changing line up of young “bud tenders “ are not good , not knowledge and offer nothing expect how can I sell you...

I opted for curbside because I’ve just had multiple surgeries done on my leg. Waited outside for over a half hour to receive a call asking if I had exact change. I had stopped at the bank and got exact cash for this transaction including a $10 tip. After waiting, two team members came out, checked my id, collected cash that was counted in front of me, the woman put cash in her pocket, and handed me my items. Nearly a month later i tried to buy from another zen leaf location and the Meriden banned me from ordering because I owe them money? They stated the team member was caught on camera counting my cash inside and it was $20 short. Not only did the woman count the money on front of me and another team member when received, but it was all the cash I had taken out of the bank. I have the transaction to confirm the amount handed to the lady. Considering no one called me and no one let me know when this happened, I am confident they pocketed the money. Zen leaf refused to serve me moving forward unless I paid the $20 this team member either took for herself or dropped on her way in. Leave it to corporate greed to withhold a medical patient, who spends well over $600 a month, her order due to fault of their own employee. The manager of Meriden was instant she receives the $20 directly and was not allowing me to pay it at the dispensary I was at. The whole thing felt like another scam for Meriden to get more money out of me.
