Gianni Restaurant — Restaurant in Meriden

My wife and I have been going here for about 16 years. Ralph and the girls are like our second family. Whether we eat in or grab food to go it's always how we order and the taste is amazing. The night after our daughter was born my wife was eating her favorite Chicken Parm from Gianni's while she was in the hospital. We have been here with parties of 20 down to just the two of us, the girls have always been friendly and the food is always excellent. No need to drive to new Haven or Hartford for good Italian just go to east main st in meriden and visit Gianni's. I attended Culinary Institute of America and have been in the food service industry for 28 years, Ralph uses only the freshest ingredients you can find. He is an honest guy who has owned restaurants most his life and his passion and love can be tasted in his dishes. All I cam say is give them a try and you will not be disappointed. My daughter has grown up eating here and now compares any Italian restaurant we go to, to Gianni's and they never compare in her eyes. Stop by see Ralph and the girls and enjoy a great dinner. My favorite is the chicken princess, veal sorrento, seafood risotto (special), clamp casino with bread to dip the butter up, chicken soup is to die for as my wife has me get a quart of it Everytime she isn't feeling well. Is this place even open at all or have they gone out of business? I drove over tonight (Friday) before 8:00 p.m. and it was closed... Lights out. Their online hours say they close at 9:30 p.m. I moved into the immediate area just over two years ago and I have yet to be able to successfully order from them. On two separate other occasions, I called before heading over to check and see if they were open and they said yes. I told them I'd call in about 15 minutes to place an order and would then go by and pick it up. When I called to place the order and was headed over to the restaurant, I was told the kitchen was just shut down and they wouldn't take my order. This was about an hour and a half before their scheduled closing time. My mom used to say, "Those who have a business must tend to it or simply just close it". I know they have been around for a long time, so maybe it's time to retire or if it was handed down to the next generation then maybe they don't feel like working much and should look to do something else, because it is frustrating for the customer. not pleased with the service at all. family and I walked in at 7:00pm ordered our food we got it pretty quickly. The pasta dish was like any other pasta dish I have had before. My mother decided to join us which she arrived at 7:30pm. The waitress seen she walked in and just ignored her while she was cleaning her table. she never walked up to us to see if we needed a refill or see if my guest needed anything after 5 mins I walked up to her saying we needed a menu she said we are closed at 8:30 which it was only 7:35 came and brought us our check never asked if we needed anything my boyfriend asked her a question and she completely ignored him to raise her voice to ask the other table if they wanted to dessert or needed anything else and took off to speak with them very rude.
