Random Encounter Games — Local services in Mesquite

The store and its employees are all great! Really cool to see a local card shop in Mesquite. They are pretty small and no slabs if you're looking for that. They do negotiate on raw cards but do not seem to have much wiggle room so just keep that in mind. Another thing to keep in mind (this could be because they're a small store) is their sealed products (at least for Pkmn) are market price. For example, their booster boxes are all $130, which is not competitive compared to other card shops in the DFW area. Now the owner did seem to take pride in the fact that ALL their booster boxes are $130 (so theoretically if they had an Evolving Skies booster box (worth $800) they'd charge $130 still - obviously that would not make much business sense but that's how it sounded). So there's pros and cons to their prices. Overall great store but the two things that did jump out at me compared to other card shops is a higher reluctance to negotiate on card prices and their sealed products are pretty much MSRP. I cannot blame them for either but there's another card shop 10 minutes away that has Stellar Crown at $3 per booster pack and $105 for booster box.

The shop has a decent inventory with a solid selection of cards. However, the pricing process feels disorganized—rather than having set prices, each card’s value is looked up individually, which significantly slows down the experience. Additionally, many single cards aren’t kept in protective sleeves, which raises concerns about charging full market value when those cards are exposed to frequent handling.

I brought this up respectfully, but was met with a long-winded explanation about years of collecting experience, rather than addressing the actual concern. On top of that, I was unexpectedly snapped at for finding a rare Greninja EX card in the random singles bin. I didn’t want the card, and a simple acknowledgment of your mistake would have sufficed instead of the attitude.

The owners are a couple of great guys and very knowledgeable. They are working hard to make your trading card and board game experiences as enjoyable as possible. They have many tables that are easily accessible, well lit and can be arranged to meet your needs. Pre-packaged snacks and drinks are available for purchase.
