Update: I’ve been back a few times but this time I finally tried a Daquiri. I got the flavor LATE NITE and it did not disappoint. Packed with flavor and perfect amount of “likka”. Food was delicious as always. I had the catfish, lemon peppa wings, and jambalaya. Be sure to tip the gentleman taking your order. He’ll take care of you. Love this place!
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO FRY CATFISH!! I moved to Mesquite recently and I’ve been on the hunt for decent fried catfish in the area. And by decent, I mean the way my Uncle fries it… crispy, not greasy, not fishy, and with CORN MEAL. Some of yall actually have the audacity to come to Texas and fry fish in flour.. SMDH.
I was greeted by ALL of the staff and felt very welcomed and appreciated. All of my questions were answered and everyone was friendly. You can tell they’ve spent time and effort not only in perfecting their menu, but also in creating a beautiful and comfortable dining area. It was very clean and there was no “fried food” aroma in the air. Classy! You don’t realize how impressive this is until you go to similar restaurants and leave smelling like fried chicken.
Now, the food:
Boudin Balls - Crispy on the outside. Great flavor.
Catfish Nugget Basket w/ Jambalaya: Fish was fried to perfection, no fishy taste, and not greasy. Seasoned. Jambalaya was different from what I’m used to, but it was still good. Nice flavor with decent amount of shrimp and sausage tossed in. The basket also came with a corn cob which was surprisingly seasoned very well with some kind of Cajun magic. I don’t even like corn, but I ate it.
Hot Honey Lemon Pepper Wings- So I’m not a fan of wet wings or buffalo sauce but I tried them anyway bc they were recommended. They were delicious and seasoned well. The sauce was a perfect spicy/sweet balance and they were cooked just right. I’ll be trying the dry lemon pepper wings on my next visit.
Fried Okra- Best fried okra I’ve had in a very long time. Ask them to fry it hard. Delicious!
Shrimp- Basic fried shrimp. But it was fresh and good sized pieces.
Fries- Basic crinkled fries, but not greasy and cooked perfectly. I would’ve loved to have a dash of cajun magic on em. Maybe I need to request it next time.
And they had HUSHPUPPIES!!! Yes Lawd! I’m so tired of these fish places putting “light bread” in my basket!! Thanks for being true to the game!
No dessert or Daiquiri this visit but they looked delicious! They have a variety of cakes: Lemon, German Choc, Red Velvet, etc. They also offer peach cobbler. I saw numerous daiquiri flavors as well. I’ll try those when I go back for the lemon pepper wings.
The nice lady who prepared my order took the time to show me each of my food items before she bagged it up. I love that kind of service! She was very sweet and chatted with me. Mardi Gras Cajun Cuisine-Mesquite has earned my business. I will definitely be returning and bringing my family and friends to enjoy this local gem. Thank you! Great...
Read moreWe were excited to try this place, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We were expecting a sit-down meal served on dinner plates, but everything came out in to-go boxes with plastic utensils, which really took away from the dining experience. We waited about an hour for our food, which we did patiently, but we were surprised by a few things. For example, the mac and cheese was made with penne pasta instead of traditional elbow noodles — this wasn't noted on the menu and was unexpected. On the positive side, the catfish and shrimp with fries were tasty, though the chicken was overly salty. The red beans and rice as well as the cabbage was good as well. The biggest issue came when we received the bill. There was no mention on the menu or anywhere visible that a 30% gratuity would be automatically added for parties of five or more. When we went to pay, there was no option to tip — because the tip was already included. It would have been more transparent and fair to inform customers of this policy beforehand. Overall, we were let down by the presentation, communication, and lack of transparency in billing. With some adjustments, this could be a much...
Read moreAlright my Dallas natives and transplants.
Listen to a Dallas native and big foodie.
This Daquiri shop has the best fried catfish in all of Dallas county. There is no other restaurant in Dallas county white owned or black owned that comes close period.
This is my second time coming here and the catfish pieces are big, fresh and perfectly seasoned!
Had it with the red beans and rice and collared greens.
Red beans and rice extremely flavorful and not watery. Dear owners please cook the beans and rice for longer to make sure rice is tender and so are the beans. They were slightly too hard but still very good.
Collared greens was so much better than when I had them the first time here.
Wings had the Cajun tonight again and they were near salty like the first time which was perfect for me. They were fried a little too hard for me but still good.
Overall I will always comeback for that catfish and red beans and rice.
If the owners could just take the feedback I provided tonight and apply it they won’t have any complaints in the future from future customers.
Will be back...
