Review of Fresco y Más, 3401 NW 18th Ave, Miami, FL 33142 – August 22, 2025 Time: 2:05 PM
On August 22, 2025, I visited the Fresco y Más at 3401 NW 18th Ave, Miami, FL, to purchase oxtails advertised on sale for $6.98 per pound. My experience at this store was not only frustrating but also deeply unsettling, as I believe I was racially profiled during my visit. Upon entering, I went straight to the meat department, where I found no oxtails in the display case. I asked an employee for assistance, and they made me wait approximately 10 minutes before a gentleman in a white coat emerged from the back with just one pack. The delay felt unnecessary and set an uncomfortable tone for the rest of my visit. When I proceeded to the cashier to pay, I presented a $100 e-gift card purchased from the Winn-Dixie website, displayed as a screenshot on my phone. The cashier immediately touched my phone screen, as if trying to enlarge the image, and claimed they couldn’t accept a screenshot. I then opened the original URL in Google Chrome, showing the valid e-gift card. Despite this, the cashier acted confused and called over a supervisor, described as an older Hispanic woman. The supervisor informed me that the store did not accept the e-gift card, claiming this location was no longer owned by Southeastern Grocers but by Sedano’s Supermarkets. This statement contradicted information I verified through ChatGPT, which confirmed that Fresco y Más, operated by Southeastern Grocers, accepts Winn-Dixie gift cards across their stores, including Fresco y Más locations. The supervisor’s claim about Sedano’s ownership seemed misleading, as Fresco y Más was spun off to Fresco Retail Group in 2024, not Sedano’s. This misinformation, combined with the cashier’s handling of my phone and apparent reluctance to process the payment, made me feel as though they suspected I was attempting fraud. As I left the store, I noticed a City of Miami police unit parked directly at the exit. I had to walk around the vehicle to reach the parking lot, and as I passed, the officer looked at me through his side rearview mirror before immediately driving off. The timing and placement of the police unit, coupled with the earlier delays, left me with the disturbing impression that the staff may have intentionally stalled me at the meat department, possibly to summon law enforcement, as if they assumed I was there to steal or engage in fraudulent activity. This entire experience was disheartening and humiliating. The combination of the prolonged wait, the mishandling of my valid e-gift card, the questionable claim about store ownership, and the conspicuous police presence at the exit made me feel targeted and unwelcome. It’s hard to see these events as coincidental, and they strongly suggest racial profiling. I will never return to this Fresco y Más location and caution others about the potential for discriminatory treatment. This was an unacceptable way to treat a customer simply trying to...
Read moreThis place is trying to have standards for a better supermarket, but if the management doesn't change I'm afraid it's a nice pink box with a bow disguising the turd inside. Conveyor belts when u place your groceries, don't work. The lines are always long. They never stock the ice bags. I can say that the staff is nice and try helping out. The produce is fairly priced - sometimes even cheaper than Presidente. Beer prices are on point - low priced. The deli ladies are nice and willing to cut or make ur order tonur preferences. I live in this neighborhood (2 blocks away) and I prefer going to the Winn Dixie on 11st. N.W. & 12 ave by the river during dinner shopping 5pm-8pm. The shoppers in this area are rude, and uneducated. They speak foul and I've witnessed parents hitting thier children. It's not a respectable environment. We had a situation where my hubby asked to scan his ice bag because the cashier didn't see it and he also had forgotten. He asked the next person to pardon and if he could scan the ice bag and tge next shopper profiled him and flat out said "no". It was racial profiling. He is white and she is black and we really had a rotten experience with this shopper that the cashier, (him being black as well), even apologized for her. Other situations are when the lines are long - which are all the time, and the cashiers don't designate a proper procedure to take the next person who's been waiting patiently. They take whoe ever jumps to the register and that is unfair. I saw a lady waiting for the system to reboot and I'd seen her wait for 20 min. with her kids and another cashier opened the register next to the one she was waiting at. The lady wasn't granted to move to the next register. She didn't even know that her cashier went ahead and moved to another working register. The supermarket once had self-check out but that didn't last. The neighborhood can't keep up with modern technology and when they needed help before, on the self-check out registers, the ladies are busy gossiping with co-workers or flirting with customers while the line waits. Over all I woulf shop there if and when the cashiers are better trained at handling the lines and more security is placed. Cop outside does nothing but flirt with the everday shoppers. Saw a Mercedes-Benz parked witout the decal of disability, in the handicap parking spot. His kids were small, all bouncing in the back as he took off, while the cop flirted with 2 girls. Not a good environment for a decent person to buy from here. If it's an emergency - ok but get ready to wait if u...
