Mt.Defiance Cidery & Distillery — Local services in Middleburg

Went to Middleburg from Harper's Ferry WV specifically to check out Mt. Defiance for my birthday with several friends. The Cider Barn was large and accommodating. I had a strawberry slush and tasted many of the other ciders they had from friend's flights. I'm not a super fan of dry cider, but they had plenty of other options as well. My slush was amazing and the food truck had the best falafel we had ever eaten. We decided to move to the Distillery as we were excited at the spirit flights and many options of on premesis made spirits. As others have said, parking is very limited, but we solved that issue by carpooling from the cider barn. I honestly wish we would have just stayed there. The atmosphere is much much different at the distillery. I'm not sure if the woman working the counter was having a bad day, but she was very curt and disinterested in us and we quickly felt like we didn't belong there. We finished our drinks, bought a few bottles, and left to finish out the evening at the Oktoberfest event down the street. My friends and I are all in our 30s...and a couple were actually in their 60s that went be fore us and said they had the same experience, so I have no idea what prejudices our group could have stirred up aside from being "out of towners". We probably won't be back to the distillery. Cidery on the other hand is a must go if you are in town. Might even consider the hour drive to go back...

This place is great. You can go for cider tasting and spirits tastings. We did both. Love the farmhouse cider. They don't add sweeteners which is my problem with most ciders, they are just too sweet for me. This is the perfect blend of dry, sweet and tart. They also have many other varieties to try. They also make rum, brandy, liqueur, and absinthe on site. The spirits guy was super nice and informative. They are planning on expanding to vermouth, gin and more soon. The absinthe was the first I have ever had but it is so weird and good! We ended up buying some and a growler of cider.

Their cider tasting room decor is great! The edison bulbs are awesome and the ceiling fan is so cool, don't forget to look up! It's a bit of a drive to get out to Middleburg often but Whole Foods carries their farmhouse cider now, which is much...

I am not sure what was wrong with the older lady working the counter today but she was very, very rude. She kept getting flustered when we were deciding what to order. It wasn’t like we took a long time to order either, maybe 3 minutes top. I wasn’t impressed with the ciders, no big deal. She suggested certain mixed drinks but I chose a different one. Again, she got flustered and this time started shaking her head. My husband asked her what was wrong and she let us know “I don’t understand people who order mixed drinks”. Honestly it seemed like she thought she was talking about us to the next customer but didn’t realize it was still us. She was very odd.
