McFly's On The Hook — Local services in Middletown Township

I have been visiting Sandy Hook for over 40 years and even lived out there for a little over a year. This is the first time since the National Park Service took over the buildings at Fort Hancock that there has been a place to get a snack or souvenir anywhere except for one location at the beach that was usually extremely crowded. This is very convenient for those of us who like to tour the historic military base and take in the rich history of Sandy Hook, including the world's second-oldest continuously operating lighthouse - which has been lit every night since 1764. During my visit on June 12th (Monday), I asked the store clerk - assistant to the main proprietor - about the hours, as there seemed to be some confusion. He told me that they intend to be open through the summer from Thursday through Monday and would take Tuesday and Wednesday off, however, the weather was overcast and cool on Monday, so this week they were also going to open on Tuesday because of the better weather forecast. They have had some very tasty Jamacian Ginger Beer (soft drink) available and I have really enjoyed the strong bite of the ginger in this soft drink, though it has 220 calories per bottle, so it is a bit of a splurge for anyone on a strict diet. There is some seating in the main store area, so you can get indoors for a while and sit down to enjoy a snack or you can buy a souvenir in their store. They have a sign out front indicating that they take cash only, but have an ATM, should you need to get cash. I would definitely recommend McFly's and will be stopping in whenever I am able to get to Sandy Hook...

Very disappointed. My wife and I went there unexpectedly while driving through, so we thought we would try it. Ice cream was good, but a small selection. The reason I give them a poor review is the price. We each had a small cone, and when I say small, I mean very very small. It should have been $3-$4 each at most considering the size, but we were charged $12.00. Outrageous considering how small it was. I will never go there again or recommend it to anyone. Stopped in here with my kids. The owner was so friendly and had a great sense of humor. Awesome customer service here. Smaller but well curated selection of goods.. everything was really good so I don’t think you could go wrong. Highly recommend the frozen lemonade. This is the kind of place you want to spend your money at. My kids loved their ice cream and treats and we will definitely return.
