Karns Foods — Local services in Middletown

I like this Karns. It is extremely dated, but it's part of the charm. I frequent the Hershey one as I work next door, but this one is closer to my house. It has everything you need despite the size and age!

I find their prices comparable if not better than the competition, and their own store generic, Everyday Essentials, has great quality items.

The deli and meat department are wonderful. I love their fresh fried chicken and macaroni and cheese, and they have some of the best pre-made Italian subs, strombolis, and soups. LOVE their food!

I hope that they do in the future modernize a bit, maybe with some self-checkouts, or hey, at least update the interior just a little. Otherwise,...

A walkable grocery store is one of the the things I love about Middletown—this Karns is in an old shoe factory and is really historically fascinating: you can even spot the old safe by the back automatic door! Grocery wise, they always have exactly what I want—the selection isn’t as broad as a larger grocery store, but it covers all the staples you might need to cook most everything. If you're buying something from an outside supplier in their own packaging you should be OK. Never buy anything from their deli, hot bar, salad bar, pre-packaged foods/desserts... basically anything they touched. Every time I've bought something that was touched by a Karns employee there has been something wrong. Hair, eyelashes, bugs, rubber bands and plenty of other disgusting finds. Once I bought a piece of carrot cake that must've been made with the clippings from a barber shop floor. Thats how much hair I found in this thing. It was beyond gross. I haven't been...
