We've gone on the Santa trains for years! ๐๐ ๐ป It's very much a real working railroad and we appreciate the authentic train cars, station, and volunteers much more than a too-shiny fake place that's just trying to sell overpriced junk. (All proceeds from tickets and snacks go directly to maintaining the Milk and Honey Line - I love that our money is staying local and supporting the community!)
The daytime Santa trips are great for seeing more of the creek and woods - we even stopped on the trestle and got some beautiful views! The nighttime Santa trips are nice for seeing the holiday lights along the route.
Every year Santa has been sweet, friendly, and tuned in to the kids - he didn't overwhelm my shy/anxious preschooler when they didn't want a picture with Santa but still smiled and gave them a gift. Very mellow energy!
The snack car has a few tables, a decorated tree, and all snacks are $2 (cash only).
There are live songs and narration over the speakers, but the volume isn't overwhelming, even for those of us with sensitivity to noise.
Afterwards, we walked over to look at the engine and even got to talk with the engineer - a huge treat for train fans young and old ๐
(We've also taken trips in the summer just to enjoy the chance to ride on a real train! So lucky to have that opportunity๐)
Overall M&H Railroad is a great destination for anyone who loves trains, history, relaxed activities, and keeping local...
ย ย ย Read moreWe enjoyed a fantastic Mother's Day lunch train trip yesterday on the Middletown and Hunmelstown Railroad!
The train yard has ample gravel parking and the gift shop has two nice restrooms available. The lunch car was nicely decorated and our meals were delicious. Amy was a fantastic server the entire time! She was very friendly and lovely.
We've been on several other train excursions and although the sights on this trip weren't stellar, the team and food were very nice and we sincerely enjoyed ourselves. I'd gladly return for another Mother's Day excursion or another holiday.
The only tiny issues were the high temperatures and although we loved the polka music, it was slightly too loud and difficult to hear one another. The Polka Prince was so nice though and very gifted, and it's easy for music to get loud in such an enclosed space so I don't fault him.
Keep in mind accessibility may be difficult but there is a ramp available for wheelchairs and strollers.
We look forward to returning someday! Thank you to the entire team for making my mother's day yesterday very special as she deserved the...
ย ย ย Read moreAttended their first New Year's Day dinner train ride with my 4 year old grandson. The excursion was sold out ahead of time and lasted about 2 hours. Included pork & saurercrout, mashed potatoes, corn, salad & applesauce, roll & butter, choice of 3 different desserts, coffee & soda. Water in glass stemware & all tableware actual dishes & flatware. No booster seats on board. Was warned bathroom on train might not be functional for the trip. Restroom in gift shop available for before & after trip.
The server, conductor, mechanics, and engineers are all volunteers. All professionally dressed. Had pictures taken with the conductor. The server: she did accept tips.
Downside was there were no activities for my grandson (little peg boards come to mind). We played I Spy and Guess the Object (he closed he eyes & felt object in his hands & guessed what it was). We also counted the flowers in the vase & the number of the different colored...
