This is one of the best haunted house experiences Iâve had. I will not spoil the fun or any of the haunts in providing the why:
limiting group size and spacing out the parties is brilliant. One of my biggest complaints in haunted houses has always been that, if youâre lucky, only the first person in your party gets jump scared and the full experience. Thatâs if youâre lucky as most of the times parties are right on top of one another so you see the scare ahead a mile off. Castle of Chaos (CC) solves this with party spacing, genius lighting, and great layout.
CC also solves the problem of first in line in your party having the best experience by having brilliantly timed scares from unexpected angles and places. This means that while the first in your party may still experience a few more jump scares there are more than enough to go around no matter where you are in your pack.
Speaking of solving for seeing it coming, CC is laid out with better haunt separation and misdirection, and because they donât change the levels/footing on the ground (stairs, uneven floors, etc) they can go dark dark without risking getting sued for safety violations and trip hazards/ their ability to go dark and play with your vision makes for an infinitely better haunt.
The levels- Iâm not going to speak to which I did beyond saying I am neither a sadist nor a masochist (those people who do EXTREME horror haunts like McKinney Mannor -and those who work them- both need brain scans and more therapy than I can afford). Horror stops being fun for me when it crosses into real/lasting damage and/or torture porn. It does not appear that any of CCâs levels cross that line. CCâs system for distinguishing guests and corresponding levels/waivers is genius. It allows for a group with differing levels of scare/touch tolerance to go together and yet have very different experiences (all of them excellent). You could do levels 1-5 depending on your tolerance and know you will leave in one piece, unharmed, and not in need of a live-in psychiatric practitioner.
Finally, given their exceptional organization, CC has nailed the balance between scare and safety. Not only are there very clear instructions, but there are multiple just in case safety procedures in place to ensure a good time for all including the ability for participants to downgrade their level (despite waivers) at any point during the experience if they realize it was too much in a discrete way without ruining or cutting short their overall experience. The actors, talent, and staff are brilliantly committed to their roles at all levels and well trained enough to juggle them while maintaining the safety and enjoyment of every guest.
In short, CC has mastered the haunted house experience. Everyone in my group from the first timer to the truest of horror enthusiast had a wonderful time and could not stop raving about it afterward. I highly recommend it and will absolutely return for...
Read morethis was honestly just super disappointing. firstly, the bathrooms were FILTHY. alot of things seemed unclean about the castle of chaos. obviously a lot of work was put into some aspects of this attraction. like, iâm sure they spent a TON of money on puppets⌠but thatâs about it. so many things were glaringly lacking. the first 3/4 of the experience had about 10 total actors scattered around and most of them were giving us âdirectionsâ things like: enter here, stop for the group ahead of you, go through this tunnel, put on these glasses, stop for the group ahead of you AGAIN. they all just seemed like regular people who happened to be wearing costumes that didnât want to be there, but for functionality sake, needed to be there. the guy holding the flashlight in front of the tunnel definitely would have rather been anywhere else on the planet but truthfully, so would i. it was so laughable how few employees there were that our group made a running joke out of counting how many people we saw. by the long anticipated ending (where suddenly there were 3 actors to a room) we had counted 24 actors/employees that we happened upon during the attraction (excluding anyone outside dealing with admission or concessions.) 11 actors were simply standing there to give direction/instructions and 13 actors trying to scare you. the whole thing relied HEAVILY on puppets and those weird animatronics you see at spirit halloween. now, back to the tunnel with the guy who could have been replaced with a lamp⌠youâre crawling through a small tunnel on the ground that has the most disgusting flooring ever. itâs foam that is coming apart and likely never gets vacuumed and is super uneven. on top of all that, every single room we walked into had a brand new unpleasant odor. the amount of different disgusting smells was probably the most creative thing about the whole goddamn haunted house. overall this was incredibly overpriced ($85 for two people) for something so understaffed, unclean and underwhelming. -69/10. i would have rather wiped my ass with $85 than go through the castle of...
Read moreWe travel all over from haunt to haunt During September to November. Weâve been to the following this year alone, strangling brothers, haunted forest, nightmare on 13th, asylum 49, fear factory, haunted hallow, and fright mares.
We Love all haunted houses and we support all of them. But that being said this is hands down our absolute favorite of the entire western United States. We even bought season passes this year!
The options for levels are so extremely helpful. Depending on your mood and how much fun you wanna Have, You can be a chicken & Do level 1 or you can go up all the way to level 4 & have full hands on.
Then after youâve conquered all of those & u are ready for the next level, level 5 is available Saturdays in October after Midnight. Itâs a full on experience with all the levels with a touch of krusebel. Level 5 is $50 per person. Definitely not for the first timers.
Then if you think you can take the next step up & try krusebel for $249 & make an attempt survive the entire night, Not for the average joes
I can say this place is the most interactive haunt, The actors put their heart & soul into this show. They have been so interactive and welcoming! We have never been to a haunt that makes you feel like family!
I wanna say again this isnât a cheesy haunt with actors holding air hoses in corners to scare you.
Some of these actors have been with chaos for 20 plus years. Weâve been to all of the castle of chaos locations in our life time, highland, 3300 salt lake, 5400 Taylorsville, & now Midvale. James the owner is an amazing Dude for keeping this show going this long & his business partner Chris.
Hands down one amazing cast & crew who will not disappoint. Shout out to security & ticketing for always making us feel at home. This year they completely expanded. So many new rooms & features. More coming tooo.
This haunt can last anywhere from 40 min to 1hr depending on your level you bought. Castle of Chaos is a 10/10 experience you need to...
